I have a total of 3 thermostats and 2 furnace/ac units in my house (1 thermostat of which isn't being used) and recently one of the thermostats started to malfunction, so we ordered 2 of the Google Nest thermostat E on Walmart to replace the malfunctioning one, and the working one, and they arrived in 2 days. We then installed one of the thermostats on the malfunctioning thermostat the day we got them, and we will install the other one later.

We had a major problem installing the Nest thermostat. We have a two stage furnace that apparently requires special wiring for the Nest. We did not know we had a two stage furnace until I inadvertently blew a fuse in the furnace panel (in the attic). You may have THREE power supply switches to your furnace. You need to turn them all off before you start. We tried to work with Nest and the technician had us shift wires over and over during a one hour period. It was a nightmare of difficulty in handling tiny wiring. Nothing worked. Even the contractor we hired after this debacle was not able to get the Nest to function properly and stop giving error messages. IF YOU ASSUME THAT YOUR FURNACE IS COMPATIBLE WITH NEST YOU MAY BE WRONG. We returned the Nest and put in an Emerson (easy read) thermostat. It works fine and our single story home is very comfortable. Sometimes modern digital equipment is more trouble than it is worth. If you want to install a smart thermostat yourself, or use a contractor who is not a "Nest specialist" you may regret it. Sometimes "simpler" is really better. sanjosemike

Just had the nest e installed yesterday, not as tech savvy but your review helped me out a lot. My old thermostat I could put on auto which made the fan go off and on to save energy. Does the nest e have that feature?
@safehomeorg35796 жыл бұрын
Hey! Glad it was helpful. Do you like the thermostat? With Nest E, the fan runs automatically when your HVAC is either heating or cooling. If you want more control, you can create a schedule for the fan to follow. From your Nest app, click on your thermostat, then click on the gear icon on the top right. From there, scroll down to options and then click fan schedule. You can create a schedule for your fan to follow here. Right above this option, you will see Airwave, which I think relates to what you're asking about. Airwave will automatically turn your AC off after your room has cooled and then uses your fan to spread the cool air.

Will it hold a temperature indefinitely? This is something the older Nest could never do and is the reason I switched to Honeywell. Nest said it could achieve this by putting the device in permanent away mode. Hokie, indeed.
@safehomeorg35797 жыл бұрын
No, not really. ecobee has the same. You can set it to a temperature and then choose if you want it to hold that temperature for a couple of hours, until your next scheduled temperature, or indefinitely. Nest doesn’t offer a clear way to do the same. I suppose you could turn off auto-schedule and Home/Away Assist but then you’re still left with a schedule. I’m assuming it would follow that schedule unless you deleted it or changed the schedule, which is a lot of effort for a temporary hold. Nest is geared toward energy savings where Lyric and ecobee prioritize comfort over efficiency. Not that that’s a bad thing! That is one of the reasons why I selected ecobee for a project I worked on in Florida.

Are you talking about rebates from your local gas company? If so, Nest E should qualify too. It's energy star certified. We don't have a rebate offer in Nashville, unfortunately.

Thank you Rose, for a wonderful video. I always look forward hearing from you. ( no pressure on making videos...lol ) Someday, would you consider making a video about you and your life ? You are MORe interesting than the products. I have so many questions about your general background... Take care.
@safehomeorg35797 жыл бұрын
I'll have to think about ways to incorporate personal details into the videos. The hard part is that the videos short, so spending time on myself takes away from the product. The primary focus will always be technology but I'll marinate on this suggestion.
@tempest4117 жыл бұрын
I would second that suggestion, but understand that you would want to keep your channel as a forum dedicated to home security and convenience(?) gadgets. If you're interested in sharing, plenty of KZbin members have second channels for other topics. And then there's just keeping your private life..PRIVATE! As much as I come here and ponder what kind of person you are beyond your great reviews (like who can keep their home THAT CLEAN???...and your bewitching looks!), society really seems to be going into the toilet these days, so maybe it's best to enjoy being a mystery:)

Beware, the Nest 'E' cannot control a humidifier. If you're like me and want to also get rid of a very ugly humidistat panel on your wall... this device will not work!
@ghanus20097 жыл бұрын
It probably don't toast bread either, but it wasn't designed to do that. Thermostats and humidistats are different products.
@kylejwilcox7 жыл бұрын
ghanus2009 it's widely stated that the Nest E is essentially a "less flashy" Nest with similar functionality. The Nest E has a humidity sensor in it and a pin out that could control a humidifier just like every other high end "thermostat", if they put it in the software (I agree these should be called climate control devices instead of thermostats). I love Google but they just about hide the fact that the E is neutered to not include this capability in its software.
