Your NEST thermostat might give you an indication that it is not getting charged and is low on power, or low battery or low charge indication. This is likely because your NEST thermostat has lost connection with your WIFI internet for some reason. I will show you some ideas on how to remedy this issue by trying a few common things. Perhaps try resetting your modem, or rebooting your NEST or resetting your furnace if you know how to safely do so. There are many causes, but if your NEST was installed correctly it should have an adequate charge to function properly.
Charge the display using a micro usb cable for about 2 -3 hours.
After charging, connect it back to the base and wait until it comes back on.
On the thermostat, go to Settings - Technical Info -Power. Make sure that battery level is at 3.8 V or higher.
Check that the display is properly connected to the base. If the display isn’t fully seated on the base, your thermostat won’t turn on and can’t charge its battery.
Check the wiring on your terminals, if you see a common wire that is not being used or connected, please try to connect it on the C terminal.
Your system may have a blown fuse. A blown fuse on your system’s control board can prevent power from reaching your thermostat. Contact a Nest Pro in your area to check your system and your thermostat wiring.
Try reinstalling your old thermostat. If your system works as it should with your old thermostat, your Nest thermostat may be damaged and needs to be replaced. Please write a comment below and remember to give a thumbs up or thumbs down. I want to know what my viewers like.

Thanks for this! I had recently upgraded my home network Orbi Mesh Routers. I used the same SSID and passwords, but forgot to reset my Nest (and my Ring Doorbell, and my Garage opener, and my August Door lock, and my Tesla Powerwall). Hence, the low battery issue. I discovered how to recharge the battery myself, but it was great to see you walk through the process which helped to ensure I was already on the right track. Thanks again!

Another pro tip here... if all this STILL doesn't fix your issue... press in and hold the thermostat while it is mounted to the wall until you see the screen change and a Google logo appear. You've just rebooted your nest thermostat.

I know this video is 3 years old, but there is a more permanent solution now. Basically the root of the problem is that with your current wiring, the Nest will only receive power (charge) while the fan is running. If your house is holding at a temp that doesn't need the fan to run, the battery will eventually drain. The permanent solution is to hook up the 24V Common wire to the furnace. It is indicated in the wiring backplate with a capital C. This wire will provide constant power.

My Nest remote was suddenly offline (it failed to reconnect to WIFI even after trying multiple times to no avail). It didn’t say low batter (it’s at 3.87 v). Good to know it’s due to low battery. After charging (over 3.9v), now it’s back online automatically.

Thank you for this… your explanations were very clear and understandable and your tone of voice is very pleasant to listen to. I do have one question though, last month we upgraded our home network. Not long after the Nest said it was offline, had no Wi-Fi and I got a low battery notification, but I had made sure it was connected to the new network, so I assume it lost the Wi-Fi connection at some point. It is connected to our network now and also to my Nest App, but it still shows a low battery in settings. How long does it take to charge back up once it’s connected to the internet again? It’s been about 3 weeks and still showing low battery. Do I still need to reset the power to my furnace in order for the battery connection to reconnect or just it just charge that slow after it’s reconnected to the network?

I have two nest thermostats. One is connected to the internet, the other not. Now the one not connected is not working (low (very low) battery. I have tried charging with the cable. I put it back, it appears that it is working then it goes in to shut down mode to try and recharge. Could this be the power unit of the a/c?
@FROSTYLIFE
@FROSTYLIFE 11 ай бұрын
The battery is going dead because it is constantly trying to connect to the internet. Try charging it full directly and the put it near your router to get it to connect. Once that happens then it should work like a charm.

@FROSTYLIFE
@FROSTYLIFE 2 жыл бұрын
I am really not sure, but there is a low power connection from somewhere in our near the furnace. You might be able to have a service technician tell you over the phone how to test that wire, or perhaps it is a bad connection. Maybe contact customer support with NEST to ask for their free help.

After two years no matter how much you charge the battery manually, without a C wire connection these batteries will die fast just like a cell phone and will take a recharge every other day. There’s no way to replace the battery. Better off dropping the nest and going with a better option.

I bought a new house and it had two of these things in it, I hated them. This thing is really bad at being what it is suppose to be, a thermostat ! Granted the physical hardware is nice but the look and the so called cool factor have people jumping through hoops and putting up with so much crap for a thermostat.....a thermostat people. Reboot my router? I cant remember the last time I rebooted my router, and my whole house is smart, now I have to set up a schedule for that for the darn thermostat. I put in a Honeywell and havent touched it, with a nest you want mee to scroll through 20 menus to check the battery. Dont get me started on this thing performs when actually worked.
