Good evening Basant. My son works in IT for a US Investment Bank. Today one of their Senior Business person visiting India in a casual conversation mentioned that firm didn't expanded their business aggressively in India due to uncertainty of capital gains taxation, past cases of retro taxation on certain firms. Though he was quoting instances from few years back however similar instances of taxation change and GST notices are happening even today. These are definitely key factors that matters to FII. I'd appreciate your guidance on this: I’ve been investing in direct stocks for 2 decades with a buy-and-hold strategy, only exiting when a company's fundamentals deteriorate. My 12-stock portfolio includes compounders like Titan, L&T & Bajaj Finance. Lately, I hear the idea of selling part of a stock to recoup the initial capital, leaving only the profits to ride. Is this a wise strategy, or does it disrupt the compounding process, especially if the company still has strong growth potential?

My problem is not stock selection but it is the exit strategy. A year ago, I identified a multibagger but exited it at 50% profit within a few months. It was Garware Hitech films (you may not take the name if not comfortable). It is now 5 times from my purchase price. How to decide the target price once you identify a good stock? This has happened with me multiple times. Have exited with 50-70% gains but the stock ended up being 5-6 times

Sir… carrying forward the topic of equity dilution. I believe it can be done by selling existing shares by promoters or by issuance of new shares. In the event of issuance of new shares( lets say 10% new shares for esop) by the company, is the price of the share on the chart automatically gets adjusted the next day? Like if a company is having 100000 shares and each one is trading at rs100 ie mcap is 1cr. If another 10000 shares are issued and nothing else is changing, will price of each share become 90.9 next day on charts? Or will the PE become elevated? Asking this because we dont see the price changing suddenly other than in the instances of ex dividend in market. But issuance of new shares seems like a routine event for companies. Appreciate if you can clarify.
