The founding of the original corner stone of Saint Joseph Maronite church from under the world trade center, as a Maronite this founding perplexed me and took me in memory lane to the civil war in Lebanon when the Christian stood alone like lions to defend Christianity, freedom and democracy and the Christian world in Europe and USA were indifferent without any help, looking at the status of the Christian in the world now and their political correctness what a pity if there are still few left.

They have refurbished the gold on the outside doors from the Normandie (the French equivalent of the Titanic with its own tragedy story) and they look spectacular. The image of a ship on the doors is not the Normandie but the smaller sister ship which was a precursor called the Franconia. The other images are of Normandy France. The architecture is Norman and hence the doors are appropriate. The doors were the doors to the opulent ball room of the Normandie and are like a museum to that age of opulence and elegance on ocean liners. The Normandie was in port at NYC when the Nazis took France and did not return to France as the Nazis would have confiscated it. The US gov took the ship to turn it into a Battleship. They striped it and hence the doors were sold at auction. They started to turn it into a warship but a fire broke out and the ship tipped over on its side and became waterlogged. It was a war time tragedy. Conspiracy theories still abound that the fire was arson set by German sabateurs. The metal was scraped and made into a warship at a great delay from when the original ship would have been available but for the fire. There is a well known art deco poster of the Normandie. The painting behind the alter is Our Lady of Lebanon. The marble carving of the Madonna and child at 14:01 is from 1526.

This video began with two historical inaccuracies which needs correction. These are the assertions that the ‘Latin Rite came from the Latin speaking peoples’ and that the ‘Eastern Rites’ are more ancient. While the Apostles’ Anaphora or Eucharistic prayers prayed by them may most likely be in Aramaic and were verbatim, meaning, these were not written down and passed on in a set form, we know from Tradition that the most ancient Canon is the Anaphora preserved by the Church of Rome, which was expanded to the Roman Canon. In the 1-3rd Centuries, it was prayed in Greek as virtually all of the Church liturgies were, and only in the 3-4th Centuries did variations of local liturgical sacramentaries came into development. So while the use of Latin in the Church of Rome grew into prominence after the initial universal use of Greek, the Anaphora of the rite of the Church of Rome like the Apostles’ Creed, are most ancient in the Catholic Church. It’s an error to date a Rite based from the use of a language, rather than the lineage of the canon or prayers. Many of the Byzantine Rites used today date from the 4th Century (of St John Crysostom or St Basil), but the Roman Canon precedes all of these.
