In this episode, host Anthony Mangano heads up the East River to Whitestone, Queens, NY to visit St. Luke's Catholic Church. Built in 1898, its distinctive architecture matches its remarkable history. The church also features unique artifacts from the New York World's Fair and special relics of a recent and popular saint. Several famous movie actors once lived in the surrounding neighborhood where the world's longest suspension bridge was built in 1939, and a New York Met once played in St. Luke's Little League.

What a beautiful surprise to find this program about St. Luke's in Whitestone. I grew up there and attended the school from 1948 to 1956...January graduation. That was during the time of Msgr. Francis Dillon and Fathers Matters, Connolly, Donnelly and O'Donnell who presided at my marriage. The interior of the church looks the same at the back, but very different at the front. It is and always has been beautiful. I moved away from Whitestone in 1961 but I have always kept a special place in my heart for St. Luke's.

I attended the elementary school associated with this church from 1952-1960. At that time this was a very abusive place for many. Abuse comes in many forms. If you were there at that time and know of what I speak I would like to hear your views.
