Netflix could turn everything around. 1) stop raising the price 2) stop worrying about password sharing 3) stop releasing crap content at such a fast rate, instead invest into 5 or 6 hit shows and a couple of movies for each season.

(1-2) Always the strategy for Netflix for "growth" and profitability at some point and making more revenue. 3) There's a lot of shows with contracts with Netflix. This is also a subjective category that you'll probably need to refine in what way. If it's eyeballs and ads, there's nothing like trashy reality TV.

What’s really sad is, a lot of the downfall isn’t really at the fault of Netflix itself. All of these different studios that had their content up on Netflix, pulled it once the contracts were up and started their own streaming services. Now the market is saturated with streaming services and there’s just too many in my opinion. I really do miss the days when all I needed to watch everything I wanted was Netflix and Hulu.

@@danr8267 And it also slightly busted the strategy of utilize predatory pricing to corner the market in terms of movie/TV streaming. Hulu has some streaming exclusives, but is more integrated into traditional models (because of its ownership by dominant television programming studios/networks). But there's also lots of other choices and not really the exigent urge to pull people in as there was at one point.

@shirox11

Netflix had zero competition. Now it does, and that competition offers better original programs and has rights to more popular ips. Meanwhile Netflix’s answer to there problems is to simply make more anti consumer choices. Like blocking sharing passwords outside your household and offering a cheaper option that has adds instead of just reducing there prices across the board. Netflix’s price point for what they offer is not competitive at all. There original content is very hit and miss. Those are reasons they are crumbling. Not the bs excuse they give of password sharing.

The pump and dump. Adding everything all at once gets you a couple of weeks talk at best before everyone has seen it and moves on. The fact that now everyone is starting their own streaming services which is going to limit the content they are able to get onto Netflix Annnnnd the like 3 price hikes in like a year, it went from $14.99, to $17.99 to 21.99. When your not a paying customer, your opinion doesn't matter...Nobody cares about the people who can't be bothered to subscribe, nothing of value is lost in cracking down on people who share their passwords.

It's really not about Netflix underestimating their competitors, it's the fact that they're competitors are behemoths of the industry, with decades of mind share on their backs (HBO, Disney), and/or infinite amounts of money (Amazon, Disney). Kind of like with MS, Xbox was always a part time job, literally a hobby for them, they were so massive in fact , that there were concerns about them just coming in and monopolizing an industry they had never been apart of in any significant capacity before 2001. The 80 billion they threw in less than 2 years at Bethesda and ABK? They always had that type of money, but if they did that back then, they would've bought more than half of the entire industry, so they let it grew before they got serious, same for Disney and the others.

I don't have a 5th person to worry about because when myself, along with my wife and 2 kids, are on Netflix on 4 devices, we don't want another person to kick one of us off the service. I disagree. The thing is that the streaming service market isn't a real competitive market. Because think about it, you essentially have a bunch of companies with their own locked IPs making their own services. You aren't just paying for the service. You're paying for ACCESS to those exclusive IPs that company owns. It's not like where you can either subscribe to HBO or Paramount or Disney Plus to access MCU movies or Game of Thrones just to use as examples. It's not like the movie theaters where you can pick from AMC or B&B or Cinemark to watch, say, Top Gun: Maverick for example. If you want to watch The Iron Giant for example, Warner Brothers owns that so your only place to see that is HBO Max. If you want to see Disney properties, you HAVE to watch it on Disney Plus or Hulu and the other stuff they got. It's not like someone can just make up their own streaming service and put the stuff on there and offer better service for cheaper and actually compete. No. It's inherently an exclusive, anti-competitive market.

I saw this coming a while ago when hulu went from free to a subscription model. Same with online game stores like steam on PC. Sucks when you want one area to play games without a million different launchers.

I'd like to know how they calculate unsubscribers. I haven't paid for the last few months, didn't seem worth it any more, but I wouldn't rule out using the platform again if it felt worth it. There's still at least a couple things I wouldn't mind seeing that are on there at the moment. The price rises just became too much to justify continuing a monthly subscription.

So I had the highest option for HULU, still had to watch adds and purchase the petty packages for channels that had 2 good series, so I cancelled. I'm about done with Netflix, they're cancelling series on the first season or making them a limited series and this is one the biggest rebuttals that's plagued them repeatedly. I'm not paying Netflix to not watch adds after I paid them to watch 4k series that I'll have to find out they cancelled next year. Time to let them go. Been with Amazon and Netflix for over 10 years. One is moving forward and the other is just looking for more ways to nickel and dime features that are standard with most other streaming providers.

Nah, I don’t want ads anywhere near my streaming services. The best thing about streaming services is no ads. You can argue that “oh it’ll just be an option for those who want to pay less”. But once ad companies dig their claws in it quickly spirals from 1 skippable ad to 2 unskippable ads to 3 unskippable ads and more throughout episodes. Then the more frustrating ads become, the more they’ll charge you to remove them. It’s a slippery slope I’d rather never get on.

My parents recently cancelled their subscription due to the increasing prices and how they were going to crack down on password sharing as we were all using it. The important part? My parents have been consistent subscribers since the early days of the service when it was only DVD rentals (around 2004 or 2005 I think, as I remember having it for quite a bit before they started streaming). They're fucking up big time here

Netflix got too comfortable with their lead like other large companies do, once they have little to no competition, they do very little to improve their services, or when they have movies that people love, they just cancel the shows for no apparent reason, despite how good people like them, plus at the time, all of the other studios used their platform, but once Hulu combined their services with ESPN, Disney, and other companies, they laughed at Hulu, but once Disney pulled their shows out, and made their own streaming service, they knew it was going to hit them, then all of a sudden, other networks either did the same thing, or joined together with other companies, shows started disappearing on Netflix, and now Netflix is feeling the heat. It was good while it lasted, but eliminating account sharing, and having a high cost streaming service vs everyone else is hurting them. If it goes up one more time, I'm done, and I'll stay with Philo TV, Amazon Prime since I get it free thanks to MetroPCS, and Tubi TV, even though it has commercials, they have tons of great shows on it, plus the commercials are short.
