Amazing these are stages we all go through, thus the strata of our experience is timeless. Campbell said at the end of life, life appears as a seamlessly written Story. These myths still resonate in Collective Memory. It’s very empowering to see your life in these stages. Campbell seems to uncover the psychological blueprint of Everyman.

I wrote a book all the way back in 2018 that coincidentally followed this exact hero's journey. I published it unofficially into a hardcopy that wasn't for sale at the age of 14. (I'm 18 now) - and I'm just shocked that the fictional book I wrote (that was predominantly fantasy) followed this exact template!
@twinblade633 жыл бұрын
when you think about it, it's actually not that surprising. Campbell wasn't INVENTING this "hero's journey" concept, he was basically just putting a name to it after noticing that it occurred in countless stories that had been told for countless ages across countless cultures. the idea is that it's always been the go-to methodology for storytellers, whether they knew it or not, because even on a subconscious level it's a very natural and psychologically satisfying progression. kudos to you, though, for writing a book in the first place. that's no easy task
@PatrickRsGhost3 жыл бұрын
@@twinblade63 Yep. Even if you'd never heard of The Hero's Journey before, just about every story you grew up with, whether in book or film form, has followed this exact formula. Some may not have followed it to the letter, but a lot of elements are still there.

I draw and manage a current-setting slice-of-life comic-strip and it often fails me to realize that my main character follows the exact template; turns out we're all heroes and our own stories... we're just 'levelling-up' on every cycle of the journey's wheel.

I read the book this summer. It seems like a lot of people haven’t actually read it but are still referring to the theory. It’s very hard to grasp, but I suggest you read the book and ignore videos like this that misunderstands fundamental aspects of it.

The AR-15 is a semi-automatic rifle that is lightweight, customizable, and has little recoil: Design The AR-15 was designed in the 1950s by ArmaLite, a US gun manufacturer, and was intended for civilian use. It was based on the AR-10 rifle and was designed to be easy to use and carry more ammunition. Features The AR-15 is a modular weapon with components that can be swapped out, such as the trigger, pistol grip, and magnifying scopes. It is magazine-fed and gas-operated. Uses The AR-15 is used for a variety of purposes, including hunting, target shooting, home self-defense, and marksmanship competitions. Bullet The AR-15 fires a small, high-velocity bullet that creates a shockwave when it hits a body, causing internal injuries and a gaping exit wound. History Colt purchased the AR-15 rights from ArmaLite in 1959 and made design changes, rebranding it as the Colt 601. Colt later developed an automatic-fire version for the military called the M16. Popularity In 2023, the Washington Post reported that about 1 in 20 US adults owned an AR-15. The AR-15 was used in at least 10 of the 17 deadliest mass shootings in the US.

Very vague and dumb comment. The heroes journey applies to a person going through growth. Using the heroes journey and relating it to “the world” is a vast misunderstanding of the heroes journey. And there will always be bad people and good people and dumb people and smart people so “the world” doesn’t go through a journey like the heroes journey.

I hadn't realised until recently the connection between Campbell and psychoanalysis. Which has put me off him somewhat. Psychoanalysis, especially Freud, is harmful bunk. It's nothing more than an entirely invented explanation for observations without any evidence, Freud created a nonsense mythology to join up a few things he saw. It's no different than the early scientists who believed in the aether, or that the sun orbited the earth. Jung is better, more philosophical and less dogmatic. But it's still just his fictional explanation. All that said, the Hero's Journey does function, it's mechanically sound. But it is only the _hero's_ journey. Don't confuse it for the way all stories must be told.

This is a terrible video. First off Campbell made no distinction between mythology and religion. Indeed, thousands of years ago people had religions that we now consider to be myths. Religions like cultures do not last forever. I guess this was made for a British audience and yeah oversimplified the heroes journey / mono myth. It’s focuses on King Arthur which Campbell certainly new in great detail but not the best example. Also it does not just apply to European/western culture. Any fool can see that read mythology and Norse mythology share similar themes. We Campbell did was he saw that the legends and folktales of obscure African and Native American tribes people share many of the same beliefs and motives as he was learning in Catholic school. He was able to “mythology from Asia, such as Japanese folktales and stories from the Bagdavagita and compare them to the New Testament
