This is something I've recently noticed with Netflix. Whenever they have an 8 episode series, episode 6 is the biggest emotionally impacting episode. Episode 6 for Avatar is titled "Mask". I wouldnt be surprised if they keep up their trend of Netflix episode 6 being a major impact episode.
@almas466310 ай бұрын
Considering each episode is one hour long, so would feature several episodes at once like an almost feature-length movie - "The Masks" will most likely be "The Storm", followed by "The Blue Spirit", so we'll most likely see both Zuko and Aang's tragic backstories, followed by them working together and Aang bringing up they're not so different, and could've been friends. Then Zhao might learn of the Blue Spirit's identity and attempt a murder of Zuko
@Kasiarzynka10 ай бұрын
@@almas4663Wait. 8 episodes an hour each would be about 24 episodes of the original animation (I think there, episodes are 20ish minutes)? That's awesome. I think the biggest problem with movies adapting books, or in this case, shows, is the short screen time, which forces creators to cut out and change things. It gets rid of certain depth and vibe that makes the original work better. So if they're getting similar screen time to ATLA, that will hopefully be for the best.

The reason why it's being mentioned that the setting for the series in regards to the VFX is going to be big its because the series was shot at the facilities of the visual effects company Pixomondo. They've been involved in the VFX for major projects such as The Mandalorian and For All Mankind, so don't expect ATLA to be lacking on the VFX department, because its gonna be giant
@sage686110 ай бұрын
What's really great is that Pixomondo doesn't just use a fancy green screen but a sound stage with a wrap around LED screen that creates stunning 3D backdrops using Epic Games' Unreal Engine that look and feel real for the performers. Not only does it bring forth a better performance from the actors it just looks better since it's captured live on camera and not added in post-production. In the Mandalorian pretty much all the crazy settings on different planets that we see were rendered in pre-production and then shot live straight from the LED screen. This also allows the designers to play with background and foreground and lighting in a way that would be extremely difficult with a green screen to create a much deeper field of view and add a lot of depth to the world. That's not even getting into how they could potentially use this technology for large scale bending fights. All this to say I'm certain the visuals for this show are going to slap and I'm very excited. IGN's channel has a video called the The Future of Cinema that explains how the tech works and all the things they are able to do with it, if you are at all interested in film production - or if you're worried about the VFX for this show - I'd highly recommend giving that a watch. Also "Into the Volume" for 1899 which I believe was Netflix's first time using this tech.

Not to mention Netflix's reputation nowadays, but they did well with certain shows like Stranger Things & as long as they're serious about this show, which it seems they are, then i have hope this will live up accordingly. My personal biggest worry is when a director trying to adapt a given piece of fiction also simultaneously takes adavantage & tries to change it to more or less reflect their own personal opinions or ideas of how the show should be like as opposed to how it originally was supposed to be like, for instance with the first adaptation made by M. Night Shyamalan, it was clear what he was trying to do, he gave no regard for creating an authentic ALA universe & characters, he altered it to be what he wanted it to be. It takes a person who has true respect & admiration of what it is they are trying to adapt to truly accomplish a successful adaptation, if the director in question can't or doesn't understand the appeal to a given piece of fiction or genre, better they just step aside or they'll just embarrass themselves.

My only concern is that they may cut important episodes for “budget purposes”. In this day and age, there’s really no excuse to remake a series and leave out things the original series has. If the viewers add up, they will have the money to afford it and can not be so stingy with it. I know there are people who will disagree with me, but there have been series that are not successful for their remakes BECAUSE they cut that content out and end up canceling. Some fans will hold high expectations for remakes to honor their original and keep it to the T if not incorporate it somehow. I’m excited for sure. But this is Netflix. If they don’t get their unrealistic expectations of audience they want, they will cancel it and that will be the last straw for me and cancel my subscription with them. I’m sick of that crap they pull. And I’m pretty sure that what they want won’t be enough for them even if it does hit the budget and more to keep the show going only because not enough people watched it 😑

How was the casting for the movie good? They casted white actors to play Asian and Inuit characters and South Asian actors to play East Asian characters. Nothing was accurate.

The fact that that trash of a live action movie couldn't even get some of the names right 😡 this is looking amazing to me. I adore the original series so much, so I'm really excited to see what they've done.

ATLA is not a kids' show. The original is damn near perfect, more than anything else I've seen. They need to stop trying to "appeal" and just make greatness. Fans will follow greatness, not "appeal."
@calebsmith717910 ай бұрын
It is a kids show and there's nothing wrong with that lol. The important thing to remember is that the show doesn't talk down to kids. Children can still understand when something is real or true, when something is serious and impactful, or lessons profound. With that in mind the creators were able to delve deep into the characters and themes of the show, making it not only enjoyable for children but for adults as well. When adults can enjoy a kids show you know they did a great job.

5:55 Nope. Correction, no beef (weird statement to say in the first place). The designs look so similar, almost uncanny that it would even be infringement. So I will only assume that Avatar Studios gave Netflix permission to use that design... along with other designs. Because that's what happened. What literally, actually happened. According to a source from another A:TLA video I saw, Bryke and Avatar Studios buried the hatchet of their differences and gave Netflix/Albert Kim permission to use some Avatar Studios original design.

Balance between humour and seriousness is hard to do so i hope they do it well. If they make it too serious, they wont seem like people and it will just look ridiculous.
@dawert266710 ай бұрын
Yeah I feel pretty skeptical about that. Something people tend to ignore is how cartoon characters are so much more expressive than real people, and live action adaptation actors have to work really hard to achieve that level of expressiveness- especially child actors. I really hope the director put in the work with the kids to help them feel confident enough to be fully expressive or this whole thing is gonna be so awkward

Can we all stop a moment... this 14 year old is supposed to have a love interest with a 17 year old? When she turns 18, he'll still only be 15. Sure the age difference isn't that bad. But tell me any 18 year old woman that wants a 15 year old boy?
@rinber1310 ай бұрын
I hope it will be good, but I’m nervous about it as well. It’s a massive red flag that Bryke left the production early because Netflix didn’t allow them enough creative freedom. Everything looks amazing though, I just hope they don’t turn the story into a sappy woke salad.

Knowing this I'm more confident in the series live action being successful. Considering how much of a success the animated series was, and the clusterfuc* of a 'film'. Netflix is taking a huge gamble with this and a lot is at stake for them. They knew that if they screw this up there's going to be a lot of backlash and a lot of investment could be lost.

This show means so much to me. And my entire town in a way it may not for others. Zach went to high school with me so we grew up watching as it aired and felt a lot of pride knowing he was the voice behind arguably one of the best shows ever made. I was so disappointed, and frankly offended by the original live action. It was truly one of the worst movies I have ever seen. It's not like some of the inaccuracies we've seen in movie franchises like hunger games and harry potter. There is literally a show M. Knight had access to to base the movie on. To get the names, fundamentals of how bending works, and change the characters personalities was unacceptable. Even in all the portrayals of Batman that span decades worth of movies, the core of the character regardless of actor, remains the same. Bruce is always kind of a dick, cocky, and white. M. Knight decided to make main character who is both colored, and the main comedic relief - and cast a white male and write a verison that has no humor. And please know this is no slight on Jackson Rathbone. The writing is not his fault and he's actually really funny in interviews. The original movie was so so incredibly poorly done. The fire nation being almost entire comprised of Indian decent actors made no sense. Dev patel is excellent as were the actors cast alongside him as fire nation soldiers. But even the creators of the show have expressed where each nation got their influence of conception from. The fire nation is based on Japan. All the characters names from the fire nation are Japanese. Zuko....? Firelord Ozai.....? Also, Ba Sing Se literally means indestructible city in chinese. Water tibes, I can't argue for as I don't know what eskimo and inuit names would sound like. But being Asian myself, and from what I know of Japanese and Chinese - Sokka, Katara, Noatuk sound similar to Native American intonations for names we learned about in US history. Given that, M. Knight truly ignored an entire series that was written and created with respect to the cultures it drew inspiration from - and said - mmmmm, nooo we're gonna change everything. I'm sorry to rant but this movie actually infuriated me. I'm so excited for the new version and so happy the new cast was appropriately chosen. Netlfix recognized how important this show is and (hopefully) cut no corners
@keith670610 ай бұрын
"Noatuk " has a ring of sounding like an Inuit name, as does other characters like "Ujuraq", "Siku" and "Atuat". On the other hand, "Sokka", "Katara", "Korra", Tarrlok" and "Yue" not so much.

@@keith6706 Thank you for your input, I'm admittedly most confidently familiar with Korean, Japanese, and Chinese names and pronunciation. So, if I was wrong thank you for the correction. That said, the original movie still didn't honor any of these cultures nor origins of their names. Like literally Aangs name was pronounced incorrectly..... again, it's not like some adaptations that had only books to go off of...there literally is a cannon show in existence to base the entirety of any future iterations on. It's similar to Ghost in The Shell with ScarJo. I'll be honest, I do actually like her and the writing was poor, but she also just never should have auditioned for the part. Especially in 2024 we need to stop casting characters to play a different race, but particularly when cannon material exists - and writers/directors blatantly disregard it, that's just pure laziness and lack of care to OG fans This show is one of a kind. Naruto is one of few after Sailor Moon I can think of, with the same impact in its time. But Avatar more so because it was the bridge for a lot of Americans who didn't grow up watching anime, become more more receptive to animation and not only gravitate towards western styles. While techincally Avatar is not an anime, it was the closest to back then with maybe only Lyoko coming close. I grew up with dbz, rurouni kenshin, tenchi muyo etc., so I grew up hiding my love for anime. And a lot of peope my age who were on the other side, thought those shows were "nerdy". Avatar changed that. Literally everyone loves the show. And so many of those classmates who told me anime was dumb back then - fell in love with Avatar and have since reached out to both apologize, and ask for show recommendations.
