Streaming services came along and were more convenient and not illegal but came at a reasonable monthly price. It garnered some controversy before its release due to the sexualized portrayal of the cast (who were all underage girls) in its advertising. Now, the director apparently made this movie to highlight and comment on how girls are often sexualized, and that the advertising sadly had proved her point. Regardless Netflix reportedly lost a shit-ton of subscribers (and their money) immediately after its release. On a personal note, I think this was one of those times the backlash was fully justified. I tried to give this film a fair shake and assume the advertising was the issue. But the director either just used that message to justify filming a lot of disgusting scenes, or was too inexperienced as a filmmaker to properly communicate that message beyond shock value. Neither scenario excuses much, since said footage featured actual underage actresses.

It was made expressly clear that it was renting. But of course, pro-pirates will ignore that. It is a SUBSCRIPTION service. It is also clear in the terms, that pro-pirates of course don't read, that by purchasing the subscription, you agree that Netflix can change the subscription later on. If i have to apply more effort to get something "legaly" than "illegally" and still have to pay for that then i am just not gonna pay for that. Entertaiment industry shady practices were always a thing, but alas they forget that they are at best a not that important luxury that has very quantifiable level of "its too much hassle to deal with", even if piracy were to dissapear alltogether.

Gaben proved that piracy is a matter of convinience, but all the other players of the industrie didn't get the memo. As i said i am more than okay paying for the content i am using(most of us are) - it's not about morality, but convinience. I was onboard with netflix when it was easy to use, share and the catalogue looked promising. Nowadays? I'd take the yo-ho-ho route any day of the week, since its waaaay less hassle, way easier to find obscure basically any media, and way more convinient(since i don't have to care whether my hdmi receiver and transmitter both support drm, or how to enable 4k i paid for, or whether can i stream it via dlna to my old tv, etc.)
