The saddest part of Tony's story is it seems - I think like most of us - we wait until we've lost someone before we become the best version of ourselves. The version we could have been for them.
@robertp.gagnon28402 жыл бұрын
There is much truth in that statement. After I lost my wife I had a tremendous amount of support from my coworkers. I didn't understand it in the beginning why people helped and stayed so engaged. I remember mentioning to 1 of the directors. That we have a lot of very kind and compassionate people in what is otherwise at the corp level a soul crushing company. He looked at me and said basically "they are like that because they believe that is what you would do for them". So sometimes we don't see it in ourselves because and it take others show us.

I like that idea, but in my opinion I don’t think that he actually lied to the kid, even tho he does not believe in a afterlife, he believes in a different kind of heaven that is life, where you can find real Angels like good people according to the speech of anne about them before that scene.
@AshuriAikawa2 жыл бұрын
In a way I think it's a lie, but I also don't. I think in this moment, due to him being challenged to admit the cruel reality of his words, he would rather believe in heaven as a concept because his view is just too sad. So yes, it was for the kid he said it out loud, but it was also for himself. The kid let him know how upsetting his view was, briefly altering his perception of reality to accept the possibility of heaven. The kid acted as a gateway to accept something he never normally would, even if it's briefly. This is the kind of moment that'd stick with someone for the rest of their life, so I doubt he'd go back to being so against heaven after this moment.

I even watch these clips to simply cry because there is a strange healing power in tears. It's almost as if Ricky Gervais lost his wife in real life because he expresses all the feelings I've had the past 2 years. Oh how I wish my experience were not real but only a tv show. Nonetheless, I truly appreciate this outstanding show. For those that may be interested I do a podcast on grief and loss. It's available from all the major podcast providers. A masterpiece, a masterclass. From laughter to tears in a heartbeat, how a comedic genius produced a truly spectacular series. A representation of life. Tears, happiness, sadness in the blink of an eye. Thank you

The most heartbreaking show out there that I have seen. It’s just like picturing Nick Cave’s Into My Arms, both beautiful and incredibly moving. Great work Ricky.

My dad died a little over 3.5 years ago. I miss him every day, and I still can't believe I will never see him again. He didn't "go" anywhere. He didn't "pass on". He simply ceased being. But he lives on, in my memories of him. ❤

I keep viewing the scene when Mike says "because she's lovely." Such an innocent yet powerful three words.

This show literally changed my whole perspective about life because of Ricky Gervais, even though im still young and im at my late teens now and i cant bare the fact that when times continually goes faster as i get older and seeing my loved ones are getting also older with grey hair and their bodies are worn out in their primes and cant able to do stuff they want since they're younger. I'm probably gonna change my social circle after this and im stepping out of mg comfort zone that i want to do things i really go after it until its over.

What a performance from Ricky gervais. These scenes is such a true reflection of emotions we feel when we lose someone from cancer. it also puts so much perspective in how to we can still live life and have our loss one still be with us in spirit looking down at us ❤

When that little kid asked if he believed in heaven and he took a second and said "definitely" made me bawl my eyes out, still does. Tony has grown so much since the start of the series and that for me was the moment when he completed his transformation.

Just when I haven't gotten over the passing of Sean Lock, the 3rd series broke me apart. I laughed like a lunatic and cried buckets watching the series. This is genuinely the best series ever made in my opinion.

This show hits me in every way. His deep breaths when thinking about or watching something about his deceased wife. Not caring about death anymore. Getting annoyed when people talk about you meeting someone else, like you can replace your wife and best friend. I miss you so much, Eva my love. I hope someday we will meet again...

I found it difficult to watch not because it was bad but because it was so good at portraying nearly every emotion we go through at the loss of a loved one and the hope we have to give others even when we don't feel hopeful for ourselves. Ricky Gervais is such a talented man and he deserves all the success that comes his way.

I totally get this. My wife died in June 2021. It's been well over a year now, and I feel the same way. About the only thing that keeps me from suicide is the four cats (a mother cat and her three kittens) that my wife and I rescued in 2019. Even when she was in the hospital or, later, a nursing home, she would always ask me "how are the kitties doing?" So I have to take care of them now. Other than that, my life's pretty much over. I live like a recluse now... my only contact with others is with store clerks.

I lost my wonderful husband in 2014. He was 50 years old. He’d had a minor surgery, had a blood clot break free, and three weeks to the day of that surgery, he died. 14 minutes was all it took to crush my life to smithereens. I never got suicidal, but I was indifferent to living, for a short period of time. Until you face an empty house for the first time, or worse yet, your bed, you really cannot know what it’s like. But life waits for no man. You HAVE to go on. You can wish for things to be different, but the sooner you realize this is YOUR new normal, the better. Love your mate, live for today, because tomorrow is not promised to any of us, and talk about EVERYTHING, that way there’s no regrets. The best gift my hubby gave me was the strength to move on, without him, because we can’t live our lives looking back through the rear view mirror.

What a wonderful quote. I'm lucky in that I haven't lost and immediate family member yet. (grandparents aside). Sometimes I feel like it might be me first. I see your post and think to spend more time with my family however my best intentions are, I go to work for up to 70+ hours a week to make it work for my family thinking that it may all be in vain. realistically, it is ALWAYS in vain as we all have a limited time on earth. I'm still torn in how to conduct my life..

@@DJTEMEKA all I can tell you is no man ever arrived at the last day and said “Gee, I wish I worked more!” Only YOU can control your time. Start by setting a time to turn your phone off at night. My hubby used to take mine, turn it off, and say you’re on my time, and I don’t share it with anyone. I’ve waited my whole life for you, and 100 years won’t be enough time with you.” You then can start managing to take a regular time to QUIT work everyday. He left me fairly well off, but honestly I would have given it all back and taken out a long term loan to have him come home. Start practicing saying “NO” in the mirror shaving in the morning. You have no idea how much home starts to mean to you and your wife when you make her the priority. Good luck. Hugs ❤️❤️❤️

Comedians are often times some of the best drama actors you can get. There's so many times people are shocked by raw and real performances from actors known mostly for comedy. Robin Williams is another big one that comes to mind.
