Through this interview, I realized that Daniel Dae Kim is a very eloquent speaker and so humble. I admired him as an actor in Lost and I am glad he got to play a part in ATLA. He really captured the essence of Lord Ozai. I look forward to him taking on many great roles under his belt in his career.

I remember my first exposure to Daniel was on Angel, the spinoff series from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He may have played an evil ambitious lawyer for a demon firm, but man did exude charisma every time he was on screen, and we were lucky to have him as a recurring character. I was so pleased to see him get a regular role on Lost, and every time he showed up in other series like 24. So happy for him for all the success he's earned, and it's awesome that he gets to play Ozai!

As 90s Asian baby (gaysian, to be specific) that grew up on early 2000s KZbin and media, it's legends like WongFu Productions that make me proud to still see thriving and successful. YOU BETTER DO YOUR THANG PHIL. (And please I hope a bopomofo cafe eventually opens in Toronto because I would literally go everyday and bring all my friends). ALSO: Love hearing from DDK. 20:58 it is same for pedro pascal. He asked kids if he should take the role of Joel and they're like YES!!!!
@mrterry17567 ай бұрын
20:53 DDK reminds me to Viggo Mortensen, when he asked the opinion of his son when he was hesitating to play Aragorn, the heir of the crown of Gondor. And his son told him "You have to play Aragorn". Most of the best actors I've known, were unsure if they should accept playing their roles. But what I can see, is that when they listen to kids (nephews, nieces, sons, daughters, grandchildren, etc.) they end up delivering the best character I've seen from that actor. Because you understand that the actor isn't doing the work so he can say in the future "Ya know, I played the bad guy of this series". They're doing their job so the kids in their family can tell to their friends "Hey, did you know that my father is the fire lord Ozai?" And when an actors does that, the character they're playing is 1000 times better than the original character it's based on. I can say exactly that with Daniel Dae Kim and Ozai, the Fire Lord. I can see his nieces, kids and nephews telling to their friends: "Hey, my father/uncle is the fire lord Ozai". And that just makes me feel better about the cast, and the show itself. I hope in the future, DDK's kids can appreciate the great work he did.
@maroonscarlet7 ай бұрын
Same with Pedro Pascal on playing Joel. It was the kids too 😂
@spdcrzy7 ай бұрын
I like hearing that more and more often, because kids have no filter - as DDK put it, it's a mixture of stupidity and naivete that allows them to take risks. And if a kid - whether your own or a relative's - can see you in the role, or sometimes more importantly, INSISTS that you need to take that role, then it means that it's a must. Hell, this even applies to video games. God of War had some of the best acting, period, that I've seen in a long time. EVERYBODY was pitch-perfect. And some of the adults - Richard Schiff and Chris Judge in particular - took those roles specifically because their kids told them that they HAD to do it.

Seriously, did he piss off some bigshot producer or what? No offense, Kim. Leung's lack of deserved recognition should be a war crime.

In my opinion the atla movie was horrible because of the director and they done the actors/actresses dirty in the movie. But im glad the new show is a ton better, and ive seen people say its horrible because they put things from season 2 and 3 into 1 but they didn't, they just shortened it down a bit which is fine.
