Thanks Professor for the excellent explanation about the Arabs and then the Muslim Arabs from the 9th century on wards. I believe you couldn't discuss (due to time constraints?) about how the Muslim population increased in SL by inter marriages with local inhabitants (to mean mainly the Sinhalese women) because the Arab traders who sailed would have been men only . Pl give some time for this aspect also in the next episode. It's a historical fact that during King Senarath's time under Kandyan Kingdom (to be corrected if I'm wrong here), when the Mulim's were chased by the Portugese from Trincomalee, those people were accommodated in the Digamadulla area by the King and was also allowed (by King's edict/order) to marry Sinhalese women in those areas (at the request/appeal made by the Muslims) so they can increase their population. This was the reason why many of the Muslims in the Kandyan region had (and still have) Sinhala "Gay" names before their Muslim names. Hopefully this also could be discussed at the next episode to give a wider understanding about how Sri Lankan people have evolved over the years to eradicate the menace of racial hatred among it's people propagated mainly by the self serving politicians from all sides. Thank you. Ajith Jayasekera from Sydney, Australia '
