The English only remember the Koeman red that never was. Although Platt dived like a dying swan / a Harry Kane, it was still a red card in my opinion. I'd however take a goal and a player sent off (in 2nd half when Koeman made the foul) any day off the week. But no: the English now claim it's Koeman Karma. The ref made 2 big mistakes in this game for each side to take on the chin, so there was nothing to complain about for the English afterwards. The English people today use it to justify the refs atrocious Kane awarded penalty and totally forgotten about the Rijkaard goal. Pathetic and laughable.

It may be too late, football, sadly, has regressed, effort and hard work having overtaken skill and intelligence. The “pressing” tactics so prevalent in modern football are suffocating the game. The denial of time and space, allied to increased fitness levels, mean the best players being either discouraged or constantly thwarted in attempts to display their skills. The great international teams of the last fifty years - West Germany (1972), Netherlands (1974), Yugoslavia (1976), both Brazil and France (1982), Russia (1986), and Spain (2010), are but endearing, albeit distant, memories.

Ridiculous that Koeman wasn't sent off so the coach was understandibly livid. Clearly not a penalty though, since Koeman let go of Platt's arm before either of them entered the penalty area (freeze at 6:50). The foul on Wouters was less clear, but I can understand that the referee put it outside there as well. Still, you can't say that Koemans not sending off was the crucial point of this match. When you look at this match in hindsight you wonder how these Referees make the decisions that they do . Rykards goal should have stood . Koeman should have been sent off as should the Dutch number 5 for that tackle on Parker , but what annoys me most is , after Koeman pulls Platt down , from the resulting Free Kick , before the ball is even kicked there's a Dutch defender about 4 yards from the ball , it hits him and Holland go on the attack and the Ref does nothing about it . Yet when Holland get a Free Kick , as Koeman kicks the ball Ince does exactley the same thing moves before the ball is kicked , gets booked and the kick is retaken from which Koeman scores . Inconsistancy

When Koeman fouled Platt we should have been 1-0 up. Rijkaard scored a perfect goal that whas given off site. There where 3 defenders between Rijkaard and the keeper if you see the replay this is christal clear. So if we roam into the "should have been territory" Holland where 1-0 up! So I would say Koeman would not have touched Platt with a 1-0 lead. So Koeman should have been off the pitch is not an issue. Holland should have been 1-0 up!! Why is nowbody mentioning this!!!

There hasn’t really been a big game between England and Holland for many years but during the 90’s it was a big rivalry! We loved it when we won 4-1 in euro96 but that was the last big game really because I don’t count the nations league. In England we were very angry about these two games in 93 and we wanted revenge and we got it in 96

leaves you with mixed feelings this (England supporters anyway!). You do wonder how Koeman (no to mention his brother if that was him going in studs up...) didn't take a walk for that foul. On the other hand, Dutch had a perfectly legit goal disallowed in 1st half. And if England had got better results elsewhere (surrendering 2-0 lead to Dutch at Wembley + losing to Norway if I remember right), they wouldn't have been in this predicament.

Remila Meziane I'm not being argumentative, but how is or was D.Berkamp "so underrated" as a footballer? His goal against Argentina during France 98 was officially voted the best goals scored during that World Cup finals due to sublime ball control. Take a look: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jqS9nHZ8pNaGeNU I remember him scoring two stunning goals against Leicester City @ the old Filbert Street, again stunning ball control, both contenders for goal of the season. D.Bergkamp was not underrated.

In this day and age Koeman would have been sent off, then brought back on so the ref could send him off a second time, so blatant was that foul. That said we had no right to be in that world cup considering how bad we were.
@danyoutube74915 жыл бұрын
Even in that day and age Koeman could have been sent off as well. Watch virtually any game in which he played; if there are more highlights than just the goals, you will probably see a dangerous challenge by Koeman. He committed some outrageous, blatant fouls and always got off lightly, I cannot understand why. Check out this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mpLblpWGlsZ2ebs and watch his assault on Baggio at 6:17 and laughably he goes unpunished, while a teammate who fouls and lashes out at Schillaci seconds later is sent off- this shortly after Baggio scored from a free kick, which Koeman had conceded. Looking back at all the blatant, cynical and often vicious fouls he committed, it is impossible to understand how he got away with it.
@Richardtv19684 жыл бұрын
Taylor talking shait ..... Des Walker did not get a red card at Wembley pulling Overmars down and should have had red like Koeman should’ve. And Rijkaards goal was a clear onside goal, with three defenders still in front of him ....fact of the matter was that the Dutch side just had more individual class players on the pitch

So glad to see this 'charging down' a free kick nonsense is now gone! Can't believe it was ever accepted in the first place. It always pissed me off.
@piccupaul2 жыл бұрын
The England bench was right - the refereeing in this game was disgraceful. Aside from Koeman's foul (that should have resulted in a red card and possibly a penalty), the ref allowed the Dutch to charge Dorigo's free-kick, but booked Ince when he did exactly the same thing at the other end a few minutes later. The Dutch were obviously the better team but it shouldn't cloud the fact England got well and truly reffed off the park.
