The Afsluitdijk (English: Enclosure Dam) is a major causeway in the Netherlands. It is damming off the Waddenzee, a salt water inlet of the North Sea, from the fresh water lake of the IJsselmeer.
It was constructed between 1927 and 1933 and runs over a length of 32 kilometres (20 miles) and a width of 90 m, at an initial height of 7.25 m above sea-level.
The Afsluitdijk is a fundamental part of the larger Zuiderzee Works, a manmade system of dams, land reclamation and water drainage works, the largest hydraulic engineering project undertaken by the Netherlands during the twentieth century. Its main purposes are to improve flood protection and create additional land for agriculture.
Beside the dam itself is also the necessary construction of two complexes of shipping locks and discharge sluices at both ends of the dike. The complex at Den Oever includes the Stevin lock and 3 series of 5 sluices for discharging the IJsselmeer into the Wadden Sea. The other complex at Kornwerderzand is composed of the Lorentz locks and 2 series of 5 sluices. In total there are 25 discharge sluices. It is necessary to routinely discharge water from the lake since it is continually fed by rivers and stream and polders draining their water into the IJsselmeer.
The Afsluitdijk was Holland's first 130 kph road (1st of March 2011).

I’m from the UK, in the summer of 1969 I was hitch hiking to Sweden and I decided to walk across the Afsluitdijk enclosure dam. I walked along the ocean side which is covered in grass and camped half way along, I clearly remember watching the sun set into the sea from my sleeping bag, in the morning I was joined by two sea birds that followed me almost to the end of the dam. The good old days.

I rode my bicycle over this amazing dam, and it took more than an hour and a half. While pedaling across it struck me that every metre of that dam involved countless hours of backbreaking work shifting sand and clay and laying protection stones. It's truly a visionary project, I wonder how many nay-sayers Cornelis Lely had to battle with who would claim that it could never be done, that it would fail, destroy all marine life, change the tides or whatever. It was really a daring thing to take on with the technology of the day and it stands as one of the worlds greatest engineering triumphs.

Many... It took 36 years after his first design before building started. He must be one of the few engineers to have a town named after him (Lelystad).

6:32 hahaha toen mocht je nog 130 rijden. 🤣 Back in the early nineties I regularly drove my brother over the Afsluitdijk to the trainstation in Harlingen. From there he went by train to Groningen. I drove my fathers car, it was a Lancie Thema Turbo diesel and a nice car to drive on the afsluitdijk with high speed.😃

The Afsluitdijk is an important invention. Reference is made to a storm that occurs at most once every 10,000 years. The blocks should be able to survive even that storm. Too bad all these smart men don't know about a recurring natural disaster that our planet is suffering from. This is mentioned in various old books and e.g. also by Plato. That natural disaster is caused by the ninth planet in our solar system that comes close to the sun and planets at high speed every few thousand years. The most famous disaster is the deluge, but also 'the end of times' was caused by that planet. After years of research, I was able to reconstruct a timeline. The next disaster of that great one takes place in the year 7.156 CE. The disaster causes a tidal wave "higher than the highest mountains". Only then will the Afsluitdijk no longer provide sufficient protection. The research can be read as an e-book under the title: Planet 9 = Nibiru. It contains abundant and convincing evidence for the existence of the cycle of disasters and civilizations and contains many images, most of which were unknown. Google: invisible nibiru 9

There is, or we would see all the way across and see Friesland at the 1:20 marker, we don't, we can't even see those buildings a bit before halfway over it, we should see them if the earth would be flat. Neither do we see Friesland yet when he stops at 2:05, and is filming across the water, again: we should if the earth would be flat, but it isn't.

@@Jo_Kuiper If you look out from Amastrand in Copenhagen at Sweden you can actually see the the curve of the earth. Away to your right is the bridge to Sweden, there is an island nearer by, Trekroner fort to your left and 20Km in front of you an old nuclear power station. All big structures spread over a wide area which give you some sense of scale and distance and the correct impression that the sea is curved.

Just like England isn't the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Island. That is the best analogy to use. Holland was the most powerful province in the Dutch Republic, just like England was the most powerful region of Britain its heyday.
