I was an E6 (First Class) Hull Tech on a submarine repair ship back in the 1970's. Didn't ride the boats, but helped ensure that they came back to the surface when they were supposed to...

GenStallion: Submarines are "Boat". Surface craft are "Ships". Subs are also known in the Fleet as "Sewer Pipes", but they are still Boats. Granted, I was discharged in 1979, but some things never change.

For the one who do not know where "Crazy Ivan" comes from, it is from the Book/movie "The Hunt for Red October". The Russian captains would pull this maneuver to ensure they were not being followed by American submarines. Hence the name Crazy Ivan (Russian).

@@johncunningham4820 I KNOW IT'S FICTION! But even then it's set in a future where we still use a blue water navy, so using current technological solutions isn't something outragous, especially as it grounds the story and makes it more beliveable.

@@Primearch-GG It's an intelligence report on a fictional humanity to a fictional diplomat meant to dissuade warfare, if it was meant to be believable, it wouldn't include reports of less than total loss of unit life for the special forces units in the first part.
