I love the implication that the reason our AI didn't go rogue like the alien AIs seem to do is because our AI is as stupid as we are.

To quote the first chapter in this series of stories: "Which brings us to the exception. Each AI is built with a purpose. The Wooleans built slaves, built workers. The Tritians built warriors, built weapons. Every single AI created has been built to serve, to be a tool. But Terrans in their painful loneliness built the one thing they were missing in a seemingly empty universe: They built a friend."

4:42 I love the subtle criticism of all the HFY stories that boil down to “Alien didn’t sign paper, war crimes no longer exist, let’s be demons, Yee-Haw!”

As the Author of this story: Yeah, I hate that trope. If the only reason you're not doing terrible things is because they're 'illegal', then you're not a good person.

@@bainshiedoom3287 Like, I could accept that in the circumstance where an alien empire declares complete and unrestricted war on us that we might have to have a discussion amongst ourselves about what lines we will or will not cross, but that’s different than just throwing morality out the window altogether. 100% agree with you.

i like how madhaus's data bank is filed with frogs and the "stiff" and "stuff1" files is so illogical, that another AI took damage from it

This ones good on so many levels: I love how we did the whole artificial intelligence thing; but we failed mostly at the intelligence bit.
@waterpicker68794 сағат бұрын
I have this personal belief that the day that a true self aware AI will not be some unknowable alien consciouness but infact would be quite human. I assume Madhouse was created to be a bottom up AI who created his own purposes. Hey can't be helped if the emergent intelligence happened to have a liking for puns, anime, and its creators species more self indulgent media.

To quote another one of my stories in the same universe: Kevin couldn’t help but feel his IQ drop as the AI continued to argue. He remembered reading pre-AI stories about the fictional digital intelligence, about how they would be better than humans and bring a new utopia to the world. Unfortunately it turned out that AI had to learn from their creators, and humans were terrible parents.

Don't most instances of disregarding the Geneva Convention in HFY revolve around the non-signatory enemy committing war crimes first? I thought signatories were allowed to commit those actions (or at least some of them) in response to someone else committing them.

Any time the Geneva Checklist is mentioned, that's our mark. What our enemies did to Non-Combatants, we made up for in the trenches... and on POWs... and Civilians. The glory days. We're not even a shadow of the husk of what we once were.
