Hello, thank you for this amazing video, always the highlight of the week. Greetings from snowy, cold Sweden - minus 20 degrees Celsius.

Thank you very much! Darn, that's cold! I'm convinced my family left Belgium 300 years ago due to the weather! God bless!

ive been subscribed for a while and watched videos here and there. I must say your videos continue to motivate me on my journey towards become a Network Engineer thank you for showing what a real work life is.

I am glad that my videos are helpful! That's exactly why I started this channel. Not all network admin jobs are exactly like mine. But this is one of the jobs that are out there. Just wanted to show folks that things aren't always like they teach you in school. God bless!

Thank you and Happy New Year! As a child of the 70's I thought for sure we'd have flying cars and underwater cities by now. And where is that moon base we were promised? God bless!

I could not agree more about exposing internal resource addressing, regardless of RFC1918 allocation. We've heard you mention over the years about logging in from home, hence a management VPN being accessible on the DMZ. The whole idea is to make life as difficult as possible and increase the time and effort a nefarious actor would need to learn about the network, if an intrusion was to occur. It's none of our business and I imagine most of us would agree with you. There's the old saying, loose lips sink ships. Carry on my friend and God Bless.
@NetworkAdminLife16 күн бұрын
Amen! I couldn’t agree more! We do have MFA on our VPN and on all servers and network equipment internally. We're as secure as we can make ourselves but no sense tempting fate by showing a little too much. God bless!

@@NetworkAdminLife Mind you, the hospital has been very gracious over the years. It's so easy for folks to dismiss things like Hipaa, SOX and the list goes on. We're with ya Scott.

Happy new year! As a matter of fact I just received the vendor's statement of work. I'm saving it for later in the morning to read over my coffee. Kind of like work-dessert! God bless!

Can you have full-duplex communication on a single fiber? Or, does that two fibers? (One for send, one for receive)
@BradMottram16 күн бұрын
You can use a single piece of fibre to transmit and receive at Full Duplex. The optics are generally called BiDi (BiDirectional) they transmit and receive on different wavelengths which is why you are able to use a single fibre. BiDi optics come as a matched pair for this reason.
@NetworkAdminLife16 күн бұрын
Yup. What @BradMottram said. We use two fiber optics because they are generally cheaper. I think you can go longer distances when you use two fibers for full duplex. Sounds like have some stellar folks who know more about fiber optics than I do. They can correct me. God bless!

Happy New Year. If you have a lot of APs, how do you make sure they don't interfere with each other. Can you use software in the switches or do you have specialized WIFI equipment?
@NetworkAdminLife16 күн бұрын
Great question. These APs will scan the channels it uses to see which ones are in use nearby and how far away neighboring stations are. It will try to select a channel that is not in use. For the 5 gig radio this is fairly easy but for the 2 gig radio we only have a choice of 3 channels. Again, we try to let the AP work out which channel it wants to use but for the 2 gig radio many times it will select a channel that is in use by its neighbor and we have to manually adjust that. Otherwise we get something called co-channel interference. A bad thing. God bless!

Hi did you consider to use fabric Voss on that central switch?
@NetworkAdminLife16 күн бұрын
Our vendor sold us on the concept. Our entire county was going to go to fabric but that project has stalled. I think there may be renewed interest soon. God bless!

As long as you don’t show your public IP
@Jamesaepp16 күн бұрын
I'm kind of mixed on the whole IP address revealing debate (more broadly, not just this channel). On the one hand, security through obscurity is garbage. On the other hand, there's no reason to make reconnaissance easier for someone who *does* want into your network with mal intent. On the other other hand, it's not that hard to figure out a network layout. There's software built to do just that.
@NetworkAdminLife16 күн бұрын
Exactly the battle that goes on in my head. I trust my firewall but on the other hand, I don't trust it. So to err on the side of caution I have to hid a lot more than I would like to. God bless!

Not only nope but heck nope! This is why I talk about the firewalls but any configs I show are either scrubbed or don't have anything security related in them. Which, is very little. So, mostly just talk about what we did with the firewalls and no show and tell. God bless!
