In remote areas it is normal to do regular checks as there is no one to report events such as land slip or downed trees other then the train crews and that could be too late to prevent damage to equipment. And the easiest way is to use a road/rail vehicle. This is a small one but could be a full size truck or crane, excavator or dozer that can run in the railways running gauge.

If they’re pretending to do maintenance….that means they’re probably going after an adverse possession claim on the land, which is why they go through the charade of maintaining it like they are the ‘responsible’ owners (I had a building company pretend the same to claim an adjoining strip of land), as it makes their claim more valid….because they forcibly cut your chains off you MUST get YOUR chains back on your gate too and put a clearly visible PRIVATE PROPERTY sign back on your gate and boundary, AND PHOTOGRAPH IT to stop any adverse possession claim. Also important….Make sure you write directly to both network rail and the police chief advising them that you are “REVOKING ALL PRESUMED RIGHTS OF ACCESS” to your land and the existing boundaries as per your registered title and survey paperwork. This should block them abusing legal presumptions to get legitimate access and they now become trespassers….and their abuse of the police enforcement videoed threatening your arrest should block any claim that you allowed them voluntarily to take possession of your land…they are literally committing land piracy. 🙂💕

All I see here is NR driving past checking the line and or a quick visual of the station and beyond condition. That being said, they couold be on their to or from a site? Obviously, they cannot just stop on the line with such a vehicle. It wouldn't bother me particularly because they are well within their rights to travel up and down those tracks as often as they want.

I took photos of your chicken pecking around the station. 😊 I was surprised all of this was going on but, did not believe the absolute crap being published in the papers. Running a RRV to the station would / is probably costing more to access the station and platform. It requires the RRV to take a "Path" and staff who are passed out to operate a road vehicle in the manner of a rail vehicle, Seems a waste of a RRV when there is Road Access to the platform. Even if you are in dispute to the land? Running a RRV is just more risk than leaving a van or car at the side of the road. Imagine if that thing derails. it's only on little wheels, What you doing then when Network Rail Rock up with a crain to lift it up of the tracks. I dunno. I've watched a lot of you're videos, I think there is a got to be a easier way around all this

Much simpler and costs much less for the maintenance if required to be done by staff arriving on the rail vehicle (road-rail or rail only) than by the rough tracks across the Flow Country. In winter they can't use the tracks anyway if there is snow, but the line is snow-ploughed. If they need time (say 4-6 hours) on the platform the vehicle can run to Georgemas or Forsinard while timetabled trains use the line and return tro pick up the staff.

The Far North LIne has such gaps between trains that it is safe and easy to use a road vehicle with rail wheels fitted to patrol the line. The vehicle shown and larger ones sometimes seen can easily stop and do any maintenance of the platform of Altnabreac and the shelter and equipment on it.. Why do they waste time sending staff to Altnabreac in expensive road vehicles at all? The un-made-up tracks that reach Altnabreac, and the narrow tarmac roads that lead to them, are not easy to maintain and sending large vehicles along them wears them down.... and Highland Council not Network Rail has to maintain the 'yellow' (tarmacked) roads in the area. It all seems to show that Network Rail doesn't control its costs (despite being in a supposed 'partnership' with ScotRail). One hopes that when Great British Railways is finally set up, Network Rail and its expensive ways are done away with and more efficient ways of maintaining remote railway lines are brought in.

I truely was with you until you posted this blog- if you are going to record an action first understand said action . As a retired track inspector I just don’t get what you were trying to make out of this very essential part of track safety- Would you rather have a track inspector travel along the rail or a potentially fatal rail derailment.FOR THE RECORD MY TRACK INSPECTION DUTIES HAVE ALL BEEN IN AUSTRALIA 🇦🇺

If I might ask you in your former occupation, how often would you be scheduled to inspect the condition of the permanent ways infrastructure on a line that receives minimal traffic ( 2 or 3 motorised unit trains, so only light use daily) across a terrain that has very little gradients and very few bridges or tunnels/ cuttings and very little possibility of a falling tree blocking the line. No high speed traffic and few goods trains use this line. I submit that the inspection and maintenance crews would be better deployed on heavily used routes and only inspections would be necessary on a monthly basis but with a fast response team available to react to reports from drivers of any problems that may arise during normal traffic eg animals on the line or subsiding track beds. The staff released by reducing the amount of inspections could be better employed in areas of heavier traffic to reduce the need for heavy maintenance projects which become more expensive if left to decay due to minor problems being left to worsen until they become major maintenance problems.
@pheonix1758
@pheonix1758 3 ай бұрын
@@andrewcoates6641 you have some good points but from my own experience if/ when you do have a critical failure on a main line often alternate routes are used to keep the flow of traffic flowing being commuter or commercial ect. As such most but not all are routinely inspected, granted it could be once a month to twice daily depending on A) type of rail ( ie kg of rail / type of rail construction/ CWL OR PLATED/ temperature variants - that can effect the integrity of the rail, to believe it or not deliberate tampering of the rail and its various fixtures. So basically it totally depends upon the classification of that particular rail system and the age o the line in question. I hope that answered your question.

@@ALTNABREAC with respect to, my intention was not too offend but too educate. To answer “ getting the wrong end of the stick “ well it was your thumb nail that led me to comment. I have been following your story for sometime now and I believe you have some legitimate points that need to be addressed in the appropriate forum. I rarely make comments on issues I know very little about. When it comes to rail maintenance/ management/ access all I can say is I am fully aware what is granted here in Australia- namely there is always a easement that is allocated for the use of service vehicles and emergency vehicles. I am sorry you are having to endure what is perceived as a violation/ trespassing on your land but it is truely necessary for this matter to be resolved in the courts. I must stress in my personal opinion until this matter was resolved in the courts I truely believe that the presumption that anyone else other than the rightful owner of the said property in question had unfettered access should not have taken place until the issue was resolved. I truely hope this matter can be resolved quickly, Peacefully and you can be able to enjoy your beautiful property in peace.

This seems to be in support of your contention that they could have constructed the path without going on your land. I don't believe, however, that it's that simple. The machinery and supplies that they would use would presumably be cheaper and easier to get there by road. Also, I'm guessing that they did the work on a weekday, whereas your title implies that they track check would normally be done on a weekend, when there's less rail traffic (or perhaps early Monday morning)? Stopping a road-rail vehicle to unload workmen and equipment and supplies may not be possible between normal train services. Also, if it's anything like a railway I work for, any workmen accessing the railway track itself would need to be trained and certified to be on the railway track, which means not hiring local contractors. This would likely include travelling on railway works vehicles (as opposed to being passengers on a normal train). In other words, the idea that they could as readily have built the path by accessing it from the railway, if that's what you're suggesting, seems to me to be rather unrealistic.

One of those responsibilities here, it seems to me, is to allow Network Rail access to complete the necessary works and not to inconvenience the locals and tourists by causing the closure of a vital piece of infrastructure.
