A droplet is basically like spinning up a Linode server. They are basically the same to each other, but different from something like aws. It's better to try a popular vpn service first before using a vps if the vpn isn't blocked already. A popular vpn helps hide you more but... One scary this is try running something like Angry IP scanner while using a vpn service. You might see other vpn clients xD which means they can talk to you!

While working (Web application pentesting), i was listening to this stream. LOVE it! I'm SUPER new to all of this and what i feel (i) have to learn is: * Complete the Green and Blue ranked labs on Burpsuite academy (It's free) * Learning some Bash Scripting * Learning some Python * Creating my own web application and learn some HTML coding * Learning some Java Scripting By doing this, i believe i'll have a solid ground for my job and that's what i'm currently working at. Maybe this will help someone in the same situaion as me that haven't figured out what they should strive towards. p.s If you have any good ideas to add to this that isn't too far away and too difficult with little knowledge, then do tell! :P

I will have to send your link to my younger brother who i convinced to do IT when he want to follow my foot step, by that i mean Accounting and today he thanks me for it he is currently studying for his master's in Italy. You should see the old IBM Thinkpad with XP I use for work in the medical field. Judging by the thickness most my tech patients are even surprised it runs XP. Our IT people wont even touch it really. One tried all he had to offer is that its over 13 years old and needs updated which is difficult as the software uses tools that can't just be plugged in a USB. Even told me they didn't have 3.5" floppy usb drives anymore which I knew was false. The one I use to recertify and reset the software when the diags fails was not working. WHEN I leave them they will be screwed. For over a year our IT guys tried to fix a problem with the scan function erroring out too large in our electronic medical records program. They even called support with the software and I fixed it in minutes when I showed him he was like your genius. Nah just observational and like exploring programs. I was raised from diaper age with computers.

Any suggestions for where an old man with little, to no computer skills should start? I am learning as I go. (trying not to crash my own stuff). But I am trying to soak up everything I can. But it seems like everything assumes the student already knows the true basics. I'm looking for a full breakdown. I am one of those guys that need to know why each command does what it does. not just what commands to enter. Any thoughts?
@samvanderroost5303 жыл бұрын
Hey James, if you are still looking for a good entry-point: learn how linux works. I will give a suggestion how to do that. Install software to run a virtual machine, like virtualBox or VMware (it is software that lets you create a computer without having to worry about breaking stuff) now you can start poking around in the terminal, google things like "NDG linux unhatched" => it is a free course to get you started in the terminal. If you'd like more info to get started, you can give a reaction here and we'll get in touch.
