Sir, I too am a professional integrator. As you're well aware, most of the time we simply establish new cam lines directly to the NVR. Recently I found myself in a scenario where accessibility to the individual cams was desired throughout the site network, and where a remote switch in another building would provide service to cams. Soon I was scratching my head as to why the hik cams didn't show up on IP scanner when connected to the router. Your tutorial was extremely helpful in resolving this and I learned a number of things. Thanks a lot.

Thanks Fred - this is really helpful- I'm trying to achieve a similar set up. My house is wired for CAT5 - I would like to have a PoE switch in the attic connecting to 7 Hikvision cameras and then a separate PoE switch in the garage with another 2 Hikvision cameras. I also have a Hikvision 16 channel NVR which is inside the house (in a different room to the main modem / switch). If everything is on the same network I'm assuming that I can connect to all the Hikvision cameras over the home network (not using any of the PoE ports on the NVR - simply the one connection to the LAN port). In your video you go in and simply change the IP address for the camera connected to the separate PoE switch. Unfortunately when I go in to Device Management it won't let me add any new cameras - all of the channels have been preconfigured and I don't see a way to edit any of them. The Video Device screen has a 'delete' option - but it is greyed out (I was thinking maybe if I delete one of the pre-configured Chanels it would free up a spot - but that doesn't seem to work). Do you have any suggestions please? Many thanks, Nick

Wow. Clear and concise explanation! Although I have a query pertaining to this setup. You have a 4ch NVR and a 4 port switch. I see that you have used 1 of the ports in the switch as uplink, and one for the IP camera (the test camera). which leaves 2 more ports available for IP cameras. So, in total, you can connect 3 IP cameras in the switch right? What about the 4 ch ports in the NVR? Can 4 more IP cameras be connected to those available ports on the NVR as well? I understand this a 4ch NVR and cannot support more than 4, but using this setup we can connect more than 4 IP cameras (i.e 4 on the NVR and 3 on the switch)? Please advise. Thanks!
@WentworthCCTV2 жыл бұрын
The BV Tech PoE switch used in the video actually has 6 ports. Two uplink ports and 4 PoE ports. So, if you had 4 cameras, those would go in each of the PoE ports. The recorder would plug into one of the uplink ports and your internet source (modem or router) would plug into the other uplink port. If you had a 4 channel NVR with 4 IP cameras as suggested above, that is how you would hook it up and it would work perfectly!

@WentworthCCTV2 жыл бұрын
You are limited to the number of cameras the recorder can encode. If its a 4 channel NVR, you can only have 4 cameras. However, most IP cameras now have a slot for Micro SD cards for onboard storage. If you do that, you dont need an NVR. You can still add the camera to IVMS or Hik-Connect or Smart PSS without the NVR.

can you tell me why you do not connect the remote switch to a poe connection on the nvr ? if you connect direct to the lan port, where do you connect the nvr to internet etc assuming router is right next to the nvr, so nowhere near the remote switch across the building.
@WentworthCCTV3 жыл бұрын
I usually use the built in PoE switch of the NVR and let it auto configure the Hikvision IP cameras and the LAN port is open for internet. However, some older NVRs or Turbo DVRs (that can still have 2 IP cameras) do not have the built in PoE switch. In that scenario you need the external PoE switch to power the PoE IP cameras. To answer your question, you simply run a patch cable from the PoE switch uplink port to your router or internet source as the PoE switch is plugged into the NVR LAN. Make sure you use a gigabit switch when doing this
@WentworthCCTV3 жыл бұрын
I would not use the internal PoE ports as a network switch. I tried that years ago and the cameras were not fluent, I experienced freezing. It just didn’t work right. I would suggest getting a gigabit switch and connect both the NVR and remote PoE switch to that. You can plug that switches uplink port to your modem/ router. It would stream better than the built in PoE ports of the NVR.

When you say all three routers are at the same static IP address, do you mean the static from the ISP or a static on your LAN. If you have 3 routers on the same LAN, they cannot be using the same IP address. Thats a huge problem. If you don't mind me asking, why on earth do you have 3 separate routers on the same network? Typically I see a modem or fiber switch going to a single router or firewall which is plugged into a gigabit switch which feeds the facility. If you need Wi-Fi throughout a larger facility, you use access points, not more routers due to networking conflicts. I just dont know enough about your set up. Please tell me a little more and I can try to help.

Hi, wondering if your excellent video would apply to me. I just had a HikVision 4-port NVR and 4 HikVision cameras installed, all working fine plugged direct into the NVR ports. However I am also installing a Ubiquiti 24-port PoE switch (and Dream Machine SE, not using its NVR capability or Ubiquiti cameras). I want my cameras to show up on the Ubiquiti topology, which I think they won’t do when plugged into the HikVision NVR. So I want to unplug and move them into the Ubiquiti PoE switch directly. Is this a feasible scenario? Ultimately wanting to put the NVR and cameras on a separt vlan managed and visible within Ubiquiti, is this possible? It seems the SADP tool could be used to change the IP of the NVR itself etc…
@WentworthCCTV Жыл бұрын
As long as the NVR and IP cameras are on the same network and using the same gateway they will communicate. Make sure you log into each IP camera individually to make sure the network setting in the camera is DHCP. Once you do that for all 4, the NVR will locate them in the channel settings, and you can manually add each one. It's a pretty straightforward process. Once everything is set up, obviously log back into cameras and change DHCP to static so the camera IP addresses dont move around on you.

Use SADP to verify the IP addresses of the cameras haven’t changed. If you configured the cameras manually in the NVR, and the camera is still in DHCP, it is possible your router changed the IP address of the camera during a reboot. So essentially update the camera IP addresses in the NVR settings and then take cameras out of DHCP so the IP address becomes static and won’t change.

@@WentworthCCTV are you saying that dhcp is a problem with security cameras?

The Dahua NVR has a built in PoE switch that will auto configure Dahua manufactured cameras. If you have Hikvision cameras, you must use the PoE switch and add each camera manually. The cameras must be on the same gateway as the NVR networking wise. So, you have to log into each camera individually and assign them IP address first. A couple of things here. Go into the network setting of the NVR and make sure DHCP is checked off. The NVR may be port forwarded for remote viewing and if that is the case, a static IP has been assigned to the NVR that maybe in conflict with the gateway of the new Asus router. So make sure NVR is DHCP. While you are in network, go to advanced network and enable platform access for Hik-Connect. That way you can leave the NVR is DHCP and connect to is by P2P or serial number. Next, plug a laptop or PC into the Asus router and make sure it has live internet. Open a browser and check a few websites to make sure the router is live. If it is, and the NVR is in DHCP, the NVR will work. You may need to connect the NVR to the ASUS directly and then reboot the NVR, but it should detect the ASUS gateway and adjust. Once that is done, use the SADP tool to locate the NVR on the ASUS network. You should be able to find it.

If the IP cameras are Hikvision and you plug them into the PoE, they will automatically configure to that 192.168.254.1 gateway. If your cameras are not hikvision, you would want to plug them into the PoE switch, configure the camera with a static IP (the same as the NVR LAN1 settings) and go into channel of the NVR and edit the IP settings to match that of the camera, as shown in the video. If you use Hikvision cameras with the Hikvision NVR, its plug and play. You just plug the cameras into the NVR built in POE and it does everything for you. If you mix and match equipment, Hikvision makes you work a little. That secondary LAN is great as it keeps the cameras off of your LAN and the compression works amazing.

@@WentworthCCTV Thanks for the explanation! I finished the installation a couple of weeks ago, everything was Hikvision but i had a switch to avoid passing too many long cables, it worked out nice and customer was happy.

Please I want to know if there’s any NVR that comes with two uplink ports(Lan ports). So that in the future when I want to add a POE Switch, I won’t have to move my router to the location of the POE Switch. Thank you.
@WentworthCCTV3 жыл бұрын
Yes, there are Pro Series NVR's by Hikvision that have 2 LAN ports. DS-7708ni-i4 is one of them. They allow you to plug in a PoE switch and also a router.

Hi bro Is it possible to have 9 cams on an 8 channels NVR?
@WentworthCCTV Жыл бұрын
No, you can't. But if the IP camera has a micro-sd card slot for on board storage, you can hook it up to a PoE switch and connect it to the same Hik-Connect and it would function perfectly as a ninth camera.
@Dudleydogg Жыл бұрын
That is part of the licensing, you pay for 8/16/32 channels and no matter how you connect that is all the NVR can maanage

MY hikvision NVR with M0del DS7732NI-K4/16P display an error "NETWORK DISCONNECTED" how can i solve that? help
@WentworthCCTV Жыл бұрын
It means you do not have the recorder properly connected to an active internet source like a modem or router or that the NVR is not in DHCP under network settings. In a nutshell, its not communicating with the internet.

Pls help. i bought 32 channel Hikvision NVR and connected 15 cameras which was showing on both the monitor and Hikconnect APP but the three more cameras i added via POE switch to the NVR are not displaying. Pls help
@WentworthCCTV3 жыл бұрын
The NVR programs the cameras plugged into its built in PoE switch. If 3 are plugged into a external PoE you will have to use SADP to locate them one at a time to activate them. Log into them at 192.168.1.64 and put the camera into DHCP mode in network settings. Once you do that you can enter it’s information in a channel in the NVR and the camera will work.

Which one is better? NVR with PoE or without PoE?
@WentworthCCTV2 жыл бұрын
I prefer the built in PoE for NVR's up to 16 channels. The secondary LAN and autoconfiguration functions make the system more reliable. However, with 32, 64 and 128 channel NVR's, it is better to use gigabit PoE switches and manually add the cameras. Ensure each camera has a static IP on the same network as the NVR obviously or each time the camera reboots you will have to reconfigure NVR settings.
