It's awesome that you had the vision to be a practice owner from the get-go. Your story about connecting with a practice broker through a family friend is like a dental school success tale!

Great video doctor! I would love a video comparing medical school and dental school, as I am currently struggling to choose between the two. I also think that video would get a significant amount of views and help a lot of people. Thanks.

What a great idea! Yes, I will definitely do this! My sister is a medical doctor, hopefully I can give some perspective.

I used to think like you, but then i realized that specialist treat you well for as long as you dont try and match to such spec(or until you get accepted)...then is just pure competition

I totally believe that. There are some specialty rivalries near me and it seems like it can get ugly.

This is a great video my friend thanks for sharing! Im only a lowly D1 now, but it makes perfect sense to get working on a network as soon as possible! I look forward to future videos!

Thanks Stephen! Nothing lowly about being a D1, we were all there! As they say, the days go by slow, the years go by fast, you'll be out of there before you know it!

@@BeyondDentistry The time is already flying by! I've got my third major exam coming up in a few weeks, and the pressure never fully leaves. I look forward to actually practicing dentistry in a few years. Studying and practicing dentistry are both challenging in their own ways, but at least I can dream about a shiny future when times are tough in dental school!

your content is honestly super helpful and relevant keep it up. A question i have is, should you wait until you feel fully comfortable and ready for every case to actually start your own practice alone. what's your cue?
@BeyondDentistry3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for the encouragement! I think as soon as you are comfortable practicing in the office by yourself, you can probably handle owning your own practice. For a lot of people, the stress of the practice is actually the hard part (managing the staff, office stuff, etc.) and the dentistry is easy. Having good relationships with specialists is key at least for me. It is nice to know that if I run into an endo issue or an extraction issue, I have someone I can reach out to. If you are on the fence, try to find someone who has bought a practice recently to get their experience. Also, if you own a practice you are pretty much tied to the area you are in so keep that in mind too if you are thinking you might want to move in the future.

Can you make a video on how you & the retiring dentist made a deal for his charts? Did he just give you his charts or did you two make a financial agreement? ..... I am ready to retire soon and have a tiny practice. Chances are I will move in with a colleague that has a larger office nearby and can easily absorb me & my patients into that practice & I can work when I want and let the younger guy do the cases I don't want to do. Or I can close shop and do what you did. But I have no idea how to approach this financially. Would be very interested in hearing your story in more detail and anyone elses comments involving a retiring solo dentist with a small practice.

Have you ever met a dental specialist who decided to switch to general dentistry?

In your opinion, what are the pros and cons of AEGD vs private practice right after dental school? Which would you choose? Awesome video!
@BeyondDentistry3 жыл бұрын
Thanks David! I think a good AEGD can be a springboard to some pretty high-level dentistry, especially if you get to place implants, do a lot of endo, or anything else you might not do in a private associateship. If you have a perfect associateship, that is hard to pass up, and personally I liked working in public health. But if you are thinking about doing an AEGD, you talk to the residents who are currently at the residencies you are thinking about. In my opinion (only my opinion!) Good associateship>Good AEGD>Average AEGD>Average associateship. Good luck!!

Hi, I’ve got a question. I live in Holland and right now I have a career as a dental assistant. Within a year we have immigration plans en we will be living in the Midwest of USA. Maybe you can help me out, do you have some links to have some orientation about the job in USA. Maybe you know some people who could help me to get some more information. 🙏🏼😇
