All of this is excellent but from 6:33 is a real work of art! The music and edits really work and I feel a real sense of atmosphere watching the slammer coming into Waterloo while the guard of an outbound 455 has his cup of tea (9:24). I’m building an NSE era layout in my loft and playing this music fits the trains running about there too. Suits really well

To think, Crossrail (at 3:30) was thought of so long ago and we only just got it a year ago. Hopefully Crossrail 2 and HS2 will not take so long. We got Thameslink so much faster. I feel like British Rail achieved a lot despite some very hostile Tory governments though.

NSE was supposed to be the template for privatisation. NSE, Intercity. Network Northwest, Regional Railways and Scotrail. But no, the government thought it knew better and created Railtrack and Tocs! That went well didn’t it? Chris Green was well liked and knew his stuff, leaving NSE and taking control of Intercity.
