My little baby girl died of SIDS at 16 days old. I got up to breast feed her @ 3am & she got a full belly & went back to sleep. I woke up again, this time @ 5am, because it was breakfast time and she was a hungry little mama, and found her dead. In the course of just 2 hours she had died, her lips were black & she was ice cold. She weighed 6 pounds exactly. The police were the first responders. They took everything that belonged to her (even her formula which I would sometimes give her during the day) to have it tested for poison. The sad truth is that it happens to these perfectly pure and innocent children. When babies are born and their bodies are learning to adjust to living outside of mommy's warm and cuddly womb, the neurotransmitters can misfire and not send the signal to breathe and they can just stop. This is an old post and I'm sure nobody will read it, heck, I may get cussed out by an internet troll for something I said or did. But for me, writing on this page is cathartic. Thanks for listening if anyone did lol

Kala Gannaway How did you get through it? My son passed last month due to sids, I still can’t get over it and being angry with god won’t bring him back

@@_gabe_2407 Gabe, I am so truely sorry to hear of your loss. It happens as fast as a snake bite and BOOM ....you are in another dimension and somehow the world is still turning and you want to shout "Don't any of you realize that my child is gone?" Sweetheart, i didn't get through it. I'm still in it. I went intona full blown PTSD mode. Moved in with my dad and slept for 2 years. What i have learned is that I am stronger than I ever imagined. It does get better. If you would like to chat please feel free to email me at Kmattalise02@gmail.com. You get up, you put your feet on the floor, resist the urge to lean on alcohol or drugs and do the best you can. Somedays you may have to lay down and cry. Listen to your body. Practice self care. Your baby is an angel, a cherub in all of it's purest forms. Im so sorry, I am praying for you and I'm available to talk more if you would like to. You WILL laugh again, as your boy would want you to. I promise.

Learning about the risk factors of SIDS and how to prevent it is one of the most influential topics that I am glad that I had the opportunity to be taught on. Until reviewing this clip I was unaware that SIDS was something that is common and of course heartbreaking to both the parent and the childcare provider. I learned that unless a physician has prescribed an order that allows for a baby to sleep in a position other than it's back, all babies should be sleeping placed on their back when put to sleep. I also learned that the safest way to ensure that a child's breathing is not obstructed is to place a baby in it's crib or bassinet without additives such as blankets, pillows, and toys. I could go on and on about all that I have learned from this clip but I believe the knowledge that I have shared is of much proof. Thank You greatly for this greatly articulated learning discussion on SIDS! Respectfully, Harriet Hill

One thing I learned in this video was the offering of the pacifier 2-3weeks after starting breastfeeding. Didn’t realize that because working in the neonatal unit the nurses would give the babies pacifier immediately to comfort them when crying. I wasn’t aware that scids occurs more in male babies.

Jatoria Evans I have learned a lot from watching this video. Placing your child on there backs is the most safest sleep position for your child.

My first time becoming a mother my son had acid reflux I immediately took him to his pediatrician. I thought the baby will choke but I was wrong if I lay him on his back. I was scared to put my baby to sleep on his stomach. I was told that my baby will have a bald spot but its not true my baby had a head full of hair.

You cannot prevent SIDS. aids and suffocation are two different things. Now research is showing that sudden infant death is being caused from sleep apnea and there is no way to know if your baby will have a bad episode of sleep unless they get a sleep brain study at a hospital and they don't do that unless something has already happened. Every parent needs to have a heart monitor like the owlet and know CPR. Parents who have found their babies soon enough has been able to give CPR and save their lives. Sleep apnea is more common than you think but rarely deadly. It's when the babies brain doesn't tell the body to keep breathing and the baby just stops and doesn't wake up.

I took a class on SIDS with the county health department team that investigates suspected SIDS. They told us that they suspect there's a part of the breathing mechanism in the brain that just switches off, like a light switch. It's not quite the same as sleep apnea because you can't restart the brain, it's irreversible..The breathing stops because that part of the brain shut down. According to them, you cannot stop it once it's underway and CPR will not bring them back. The only thing you can do is minimize the risk factors that trigger it. She said not all babies are susceptible, but we don't yet know how to predict which babies have that vulnerability. One baby was brought back through CPR, but she was so brain damaged she was on a ventilator and she eventually passed.

Tyesha nelson I will educate the mom on SIDS risk factors and how to prevent them and our policy as a childcare center and I will ask questions of why do mom request for child to sleep on his or her side and if she had a doctor note stating health issues

I would do what I could to get the baby asleep. I would try a pacifier method that I learned in my training. If that did not work I would call the parents and explain to them that their child is not sleeping and is fussy. The baby could be at risk for SIDS if it’s placed on its stomach.

A question about the feet-to-foot practice shown in this video near the 33:30 minute mark--I thought the current recommendation is not to use even a thin blanket on a baby , in a crib?
@brittanyphillips80626 жыл бұрын
As a child care provider I would explain to the parent that if the child sleeps on his or her side or stomach that it is dangerous for the baby. Unless they have a medical reason that they can’t sleep on their backs.

TyQuwanda B. SIDS is something that can't be predicted in babies. I will educated my parents on safe sleeping patterns and help them understand putting their children on their tummy to sleep put their children at a greater risk of succumbing to SIDS. It is important that parents are given correct and accurate information so they will understand that babies will be placed on their back to sleep unless they have a note from the baby's doctor.

Since the doctor did not say there was a medical issue then you have to follow the law and rules.
