NEUE STIMMEN 2019 - Final Concert

Every year, I'm utterly baffled by the judges' choices of finalists and winners in this competition. Singers with glaring technical deficiencies consistently get through to the finals. Occasionally an excellent singer will appear in the finals, but will never win. I looked up the panel of judges, and it finally makes sense. Of the nine current Neue Stimmen judges, only one is a trained singer. The rest are administrators, pianists, and stage directors. Of course they don't understand singing well enough to competently judge the singers before them. It's sad, but this seems to be the direction opera is going in. More and more power to pianists, stage directors, and pencil-pushing administrators with degrees in economics. Less and less to singers and singing teachers. Please, Neue Stimmen, I'm begging you. Let singers judge singers. Pianists can judge their own piano competitions. Stage directors can judge their own stage-directing competitions. Administrators can judge their own administration competitions. But please do not put the career trajectories of singers in the hands of people who don't have the technical knowledge needed to evaluate singing.

I just watched the 2023 cardiff singer of the world..clearly the singers in this competition were vastly superior to the finalists in Cardiff

Dies ist nicht nur ein Konzert der Neuen Stimmen 2019 sondern ein Konzert der besten Stimmen. Aber: Domen Krizaj muss ein Liebling der Götter sein. Anders kann man seine einzigartige kraftvolle weiche und in allen Tonhöhen überzeugende Stimme nicht erklären!
