I love the fact that this has stereo inputs and outputs.

I love my Iconoclast, I'll have a review up in about 2 weeks. I see that there are not a lot of metal based demos for this so i'll be doing one. I really recommend this guy.

Aaron Aiken is such a solid guy. Great guitarist, producer, and musician in general.

I feel the need to give some constructive criticism. I've been looking for demos of the Iconoclast on KZbin and there are maybe three or four that actually make me consider purchasing it and a fair few that make it sound awful quite frankly. What hasn't really been covered very well are the unique selling points. In the item description on your website and that of retailers, it is mentioned how you eschewed IRs because they are static and don't account for things like the reactive load of the virtual speaker, the effects of heat or simulate the dynamics of a speaker being pushed hard. None of these things have been effectively demonstrated in the videos I've seen. There are a lot of options out there at the moment. From analogue speaker emulators (some of which sound surprisingly good given the limitations of analogue speaker emulation) to IR loading devices (which I've heard many great sounding examples of despite their static nature) to other digital speaker simulators such as the GFI Cabzeus (which has certain advantages such as being able to have different cabs on each output, passthrough for speaker outputs from an amp to a cab and some reverb/delay effects). The idea of a speaker sim that reacts in a realistic fashion sounds great on paper, but I need to see/hear how it differs from the competition.

hi, i am planning to buy an ethos overdrive pedal to run in front of my iconoclast. i saw videos using two pedals together and it sounded great! but then i found out ethos overdrive has 2 versions. "power amp included" and "preamp only" version which ethos pedal do you think works better with the iconoclast? @neunaber audio effects

We have uses the Ethos Overdrive (the preamp-only version) with the Iconoclast in several of our videos, and it works very well. If you're only driving headphones or running direct (to a mixer, recording interface, or powered speakers), then this is all you need. The Ethos Overdrive Amp is for driving a full-range speaker directly via an integrated 30W amplifier. If this is your goal, then it looks like you can patch the Iconoclast in between the preamp and power amp sections. As far as I can tell, the preamp sections of these two products are the same. So, the answer to your question depends on whether you need the integrated power amp or not.

Is this a speaker emulator or amp emulator? I thought it was speaker, but this video, and many others, seem to be saying it's an amp replacement. To my ears, the iconoclast doesn't sound like an amp emulator at all. And using it bare without something acting as the amp, it doesn't sound right ... to me. So which is it Neunaber? Because this video is advocating using it as an amp replacement.

I've owned mine for about two weeks now. It's a superb speaker/cab sim. The only amp emulating it does is an optional and adjustable "power compression" setting. It emulates the type of compression you'd get from a power amp pushing a speaker. I don't use that feature, but it isn't a bad sound. In front of my iconoclast, I use an amp emulator with its speaker/cab sim turned off, and that duty is then given to the iconoclast because it really does sound better than any impulse response. Also, the headphone amp on the iconoclast is surprisingly good too.

Thanks for the clarification. That's what I gathered from their website. I think it's strange that it's now being marketed as an amp replacement. Have you tried using it like that?

The original title of this video was incorrect and has been updated. Iconoclast is in fact a speaker cab emulator, not an amp emulator. As one of the commenters mentioned, it does emulate the power compression you get when driving a speaker hard-the linear frequency dependent compression part, not the nonlinear break up of a speaker. You can plug straight into it with a guitar for a very clean amp tone, but most people will want to use some pedals or preamp in front of it. Iconoclast is really intended for those players who derive their tone from a pedalboard or external preamp, and not from an amp per se.

I appreciate the response. I've seen a little bit of confusion online over what this thing does. Even though your marketing and website have been consistent that it is a speaker (not amp) emulator. So I was a little surprised when it appeared that had changed. Keep up the good work.
