is there an application for these cab sims for a player using a tube combo? would it improve the tone of a cheap sounding combo the way a modeling or preamp pedal would? to improve my tone? if i had a mooer preamp pedal to simulate the pre & the cab sim as a cabinet could u create a new "combo"? or is it just for someone with no speakers at all?

Hey Pete, great video! What would you think would work best for metal/thrash kind of stuff, the Iconoclast or the Suhr ACE? I'm on the fence between the two. Planning on using with a Friedman Butterslax & Suhr reactive load only for heavy old school thrash metal. Think early Metallica/Ride the Lightning and Scott Ian/ SOD tones.
@natevan17 жыл бұрын
Hey Pete, Awesome demo. Really thinking about getting this unit. Have you tried it with a bass at all? I'm sure it would hold up just fine, but I can't seem to find any demos out there that use the iconoclast with a bass. If you have, is there anything or any pedals you would recommend to use it with the iconoclast? Thanks!

Great sounds as always Pete. Question? I've used a Hughes and Kettner Redbox 5 for years to run direct from my amp, but in your opinion, what is the best TINY BOX cab simulator out there? Would help guys like me who have limited bank and need to run direct
@dfenton19577 жыл бұрын
sounds great, but I assume that you have to run your pedal board into some kind of tube preamp before going to the iconoclast. I could use something like this for late night recording, but I have two fender blackface combos. No preamp out. Opinions?
@michaelpolutta31317 жыл бұрын
Thank you for this! This little box is on my short list as I'm interested in a "no amp" setup and/or forgoing mics. If I can get a consistent sound out of this going to FOH and just use my amp for *my* listening pleasure, then great. I'd like to be able to emulate a ribbon mic on my cab, rather than the sometimes-fizzy SM57 that I currently use. (What *I* hear and what the SM57 hears don't always match - the mic is always more harsh.)
@PvtGrips-vh7ti7 жыл бұрын
The examples PT used with an amp into load box into cab sim sound better than the pedal board only example imho.
@mattgilbert73473 жыл бұрын
@@PvtGrips-vh7ti Agreed. It's what I do with a Bassbreaker 15 and a GFI Cabzeus Stereo. The GFI is also non-IR. It's ok, I still prefer a real speaker and cab, but the Bassbreaker+GFI is, so far, the "least worst" option. Eventually I'll have to go full modelling but it's not something I look forward to.

Hey Pete nice video! I really enjoyed it. Now, would you consider a good idea to put the iconoclast after an atomic amplifire or an ax8 with the cab sims off?
@mattsnyder47547 жыл бұрын
Gabriel Frison I mean. It would certainly work that way. But it probably wouldn't do much that isn't already there with the IRs in the other units.

Can you plug the speaker out of your amp directly into this unit to record?
@arnolddealiii42595 жыл бұрын
Nope it's not a load box. Power amp has to dump its load and doing so into the iconoclast will damage it.
@damageincprod7 жыл бұрын
Great demo and playing as always man! Just a quick question, why did you go with Alnico iVs with the thornbucker bridge pups instead of Vs or IIs?
@PeteThorn7 жыл бұрын
Mehran Khan hi, I find they have a nice balance of lows mids and highs- same pickup with alnico 5 will have more bass and a more spikey top. So I like the balance and having a bit more mid in the bridge position, tends to balance nice with the low output neck pick up that has a 5 in it.
@damageincprod7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the reply. They sound amazing especially with brighter amps like the Suhr SL67.

Monster Movie Monster Movie Monster Movie! Yayy!!! Where's the new album dammit!!!??? C'mon Pete!! We need Guitar Nerd II!! When will you rock us with that!? Oh, and great demo as always! I love their reverb... not sure how I could use such a gizmo in my rig, but still loved the demo. One question... sure are a lot of i/o's on the front edge of that pedal... what are those for? You can't run an amp directly into this thing can you?? I"m assuming not since you said you used the Suhr reactive load...
@michaelpolutta31317 жыл бұрын
No, it is not a load box or a pass-thru box for an amp. Send speaker-level signals in and you'll burn it up, I'd wager. Also, I thought that was "Revenge of the Nerds" that he used.
@3dsman7 жыл бұрын
Ooops my bad. Yep... I didn't stop to go listen BUT if you listen to the two, they do have the same double-stop kinda thing going. Lame excuse for blowing a song call. At least I knew it was from the album. C- You're right on the other issue... I'm guessing too, but unlikely it can act as a power soak given it's microscopic size, just thought it should be stated somewhere. PS: Still demanding... ok pleading... for a reply from Pete... where's the next CD?! Would be bigger than Guardians Of The Galaxy II in my book. See... my nerd is showing..
@michaelpolutta31317 жыл бұрын
FYI - another box I'm considering for this purpose is the AMT Pangaea. It allows a "thru" connection off the speaker out that would send the IR'd signal to your mixer and send the speaker out to your speaker - like the H&K Red Box does. That box *does* use IRs. Similar price also. Also, I concur - very much looking forward to Pete's next album.

@mattgilbert73474 жыл бұрын
Great playing but, as good as this is, I just do not like these amp/cab modelers. Never heard a tone that didn't sound harsh, too bright, too brutal, no warmth, etc, etc. That includes the ones I actually use (only because I have to). It's all so in your face and "2D" - there's no depth to the sound. The same goes for what I've heard from the Iridium and Two Notes demos. I hate this new trend of "no amps allowed" at venues. It's killing the guitar as a truly *musical* Folk instrument (and it is a Folk instrument, always been so, even if you're playing Metal).
@isildur2414 жыл бұрын
Maybe so, but when you live in a fourth floor apartment and can't turn up an amp over 10% volume, you don't have many options
@mattgilbert73473 жыл бұрын
@@isildur241 well yeah, I don't dispute that. Probably why I play unplugged or acoustic so often these days. The Humboldt Simplifier is decent, I don't mind it. It may not sound much like an amp but at least it *feels* and responds somewhat like a valve amp.
