I used to be a diehard amp fanatic and swore I would never mess with sims after a couple early experiences. These days, I gotta agree with you - I (like many) have a room of tube amps that really don't get much play anymore. This one needs an attenuator to sound decent, that one needs a new set of tubes, etc. With plugins, its the same plug-and-play great tone every time.

I think a lot of people get it wrong trying to compare "same settings" between different products, of course they're going to sound different, they were made by different people. I think a better comparison is whether each Can sound good/great using the tools available in the model (without extraneous effort or audio gymnastics to get there) . To compare same settings is a pointless exercise in ignorance of the differences built into the models by their different creators.

Agreed. It should be can I get the sound I want out of each thing I’m comparing and can I get them to sound similar? Just the different in IRs loaded in the stock settings between the two will make a massive difference so if you don’t try to match those up you’re already starting way apart.

But, in my little home studio, there’s no way i can track a guitar that’s loud enough to push the kind of air that gives the same feel of these plugins. So they are a great resource for songwriters like myself. I’ve used Line6 foot boards, the Positive grid plugins and iPad apps, ML studios, amplitube and the amp sims that come with the all access slate suite, and I’ve found the neural stuff to be the most responsive, and the closest feel to actually playing through an amp. I think if you’re using like, an Ox and an amp head, you’re going to get a very similar experience as the neural stuff. It seems like the IK sld was recorded with less dynamic range perhaps, and so it needs more push from the pedal sims and also more dimed dials than the DSP version. There's a graphic EQ in IK that can help push forward the same frequencies as the DSP version as well, to make it brighter and less flat. Overall the DSP is easier to plug and play, the IK is a little stubborn but can be made pretty similar with some careful tweaking. Can't complain when it's free.

Kid: "Mom, can we get the new Neural DSP SLO100 plug-in!" Mom: "We have an SLO100 plug-in at home!" SLO100 plug-in at home: Amplitube The best way to compare these would be to load both plugins on one channel and turn the cab off on one and alternate between since mic placement and cab are HUGE factors of the tone. You could do this with the cab sections from both to really get an idea. Note: I had an original SLO100 some years back. But it was before everyone and their brother had affordable load boxes and IRs were a thing, so I...had to...sell it...😭 I have the Amplitube, the STL and the Neural SLO plug-ins. The Neural has the best pedal feature set. Personally, the STL is most like the real thing out of the box, but the Neural is easily tweaked to match. The Amplitube is great if you aren't dropping big money on plug-ins, but it doesn't "feel" as good as the other two. If you really want as close to real as possible, I vote for the Neural or STL. Seems that intentional or not, Neural Soldano is setting the bar for comparison. It is the one to beat and Amplitube 5 just can't do it. Kudos for being diplomatic but it is what it is.

I just recently purchased Amplitube 5 Max.....and saw this video.....thought Neural DSP sounded a lot better.....so I downloaded a trial at home....and....I'm not getting the same huge differences that you seem to get here.......here, at home, I thought they both sounded about equal in quality....I would say that there are a lot more tone shaping options with Amplitube, having a choice of numerous amps/cabs/pedals/rack gear, etc....that you can add.....but if someone ONLY wanted a Soldano copy...and didn't want anything else.....I'd say you'd be happy with the Neural DSP.......but...if you want more versatility, I'd go with Amp 5 (max) I will say that I really liked the delay "pedal" that comes with the Neural DSP.....very nice.

You should try and use the neural cab with the AmpliTube head. Maybe the AmpliTube cabs are just horrible.

Amplitube muched boxy than neural, i have the cory wong version, the clean tone with Neural are the best i geard Di on a virtual amp, yet i love the huge power house you have in amplitube 5, overall i am satiafyed with amplitube 5 max and neural cory wong, i much of a funk blues lofi dude 😅

I love AmpliTube, but this was truly "ear opening". I didn't want to admit just how much better Neural DSP sounds, but it's really obvious in my opinion.

Does Neural have a Mesa Boogie plugin? Guess I will have to look. No Mesa but have other cool looking plugins/amps.

I don’t think they do a Mesa Boogie plugin

Check the Gojira plugin! The second amp sounds and behave lika e Mesa recti, the problem with neural is that they don't tell what amp they capture

Neural have a great cab sim section, i suggest try some play amp sim from amplitube + neural cab sim section or any different amp sim. In my opinion 70% sound in Neural is from a cab sim. Maybe that is a reason way Neaural not shares cab sim as separate application

Amplitube has been so far behind in the game, they are 3 years too late to the party. When they released 5, I thought they finally were going to come on par with Neural, ML Soundlab and others but no, still a horrible disappointment and doesn't seem they are changing their ways soon to catch up with what's already available.

There is another video where I did that! With this video I wanted to know how the different plugins sound with the cabinet sims they come with…to me it’s about what the plugin sound like out of the box without going through a thousand seperate IRs…it’s about what you get in the package

I think the Amplitube presets and sounds suffer from their cab selections and mic positions. You almost always have to fiddle with them. Amplitube cab models almost always sound bland or weak due to the default sm57 right on the cone glue vibe.
@TSFAHTPS Жыл бұрын
Yeah I think Neural are great at making really good presets and IK is getting better but still not quite as good which often makes the first impression less impressive than Neural

I am not at all into modeling but the Neural is head of the pack. The KZbinrs are even putting their AXE-FX III on the back seat.The main thing it is great to see you have it. It might help bring in some new subscribers and help fill out the ranks with all us regulars and that is a win, win for the Pedal Show and for us!

I remember trying Amplitube 4 and there a latency thing going on (sounded good though). In your experience is that generally the interface and/or settings?
@TSFAHTPS3 жыл бұрын
I think latency with amp sims has to do with the processor speed of your computer - some amp sims use a lot of CPU...I know AmpliTube can chew up a lot of CPU because there is so much to it...the Neural plugin seems to be more streamlined and uses very little CPU in comparison which means you have way less latency. You can try changing the settings but if it gets to a point where your computer can't quite handle it thats when you get kinda glitchy sounds and you may get system overload messages
@junkawakami31933 жыл бұрын
i think they did that as part of internal oversampling (shame you can't turn it off, IK should look at it), which seems to be the case with some t-racks plugins that introduce saturation/distortion.

Neural sounds great. Downloaded the Tone King trial plugin today. But since I don’t use plugins often, right off the bat I notice the latency….ughhhh. Real amps rule. Looking at the Quad Cortex though…it’s kind of hard for me to get creative when you have the latency, even using low buffer rates etc.
2 жыл бұрын
Latency has a lot to do with your interface(and your computer to a degree) and nothing to do with the plug-in itself. I also had latency with cheap Beringhers and it improved with a Rode AT-1 but I got the axe io yesterday and it blew my mind. 0 latency no matter how high the buffer size is.
@MaksymOliinyk-z5u Жыл бұрын
the thing is the sound of neural dsp sound better, no question about it. and if you wanna record smth no question take neural dsp, but for daily practice idk. the sound are not versatile enough its just 1 amp and a couple of pedals for 100 eur, you do not have a looper, you do not have an opportunity to quickly record inside the plugin etc
@dnantis3 жыл бұрын
My take is that when recording i use different amp sims that sound different and with that I can fill almost all the guitar sound freq spectrum ....this IK Soldano sounding slighly odd or not the same is quite good for fuller tracks ! At least for me it works !
