My dachshund Sadie was diagnosed with mega esophagus and blood was sent out to be tested for MG; the Vet was very positive and I picked up my baby girl, a 12 yo dachshund (3 days shy of) and they sent me home with positive reinforcement . . . Sadie was exhibiting muscle weakness in her legs and was having trouble walking too that is why I suspected MG too. I took her home and was already measuring her for her Bailey Chair because I was going to take such good care of her. i was sent home with antibiotics, prednisone and given a script for viagra like med which I never ended up getting. Took her home, put her on my bed to rest; she couldn't get comfy and she was having problems with her hind leg. I took her initially because she was gagging intermittently but not throwing up her dinner . . . anyway, my housemate called and said he didn't like the way she sounded, that is why I took her too the vets . .. this is over a course of 4 days . . . I felt relief when I called because the vet never ever gave me any indication that my baby was gravely ill. Anyway I tried to feed her holding her up and she wasn't hungry. The I gave her a little water and she coughed a bit; then I put her on the bed and we gave her her antibiotic. Then about an hour later, she was laying on the bed and I noticed she was breathing fast but I tried not to get alarmed and I picked her up and help her upright so my friend could give her her prednisone. He pushed it into the back of her mouth. I was rubbing her neck and all of a sudden I saw the life drain out of my precious baby and she died while I was holding her upright. I don't know why or or what happened and I couldn't bring myself to have her autopsied.

Thank you for this wonderful video. I had a question. I have a dog with newly diagnosed MG. He not only has Megaesophagus, but we've also noticed that his tongue muscle is not working as it should. While feeding has not been much of a problem, we are turning his food into golf sized meatballs, maintaining hydration has been more of an issue for us with his tongue not working. Aspirate pneumonia is a concern, do you know of any hydration techniques for dogs with MG where the tongue doesn't work?
