A lot of people miss the real meaning of this tool. The same control this awesome brave man is using to play games, is going to be used to take any person; not only handicapped people; and let them do things that a human cannot normally do. Like control an Exoskeleton hands free. This takes you from quadraplegic to almost moving normally in one surgery. Remote wireless control of tools will be very useful in almost every workplace too. Neuralink has infinite uses and the independence it will give to humanity is a level of independence without precedence. I really hope to see this at full potential before I die.

It goes the other way as well. This kind of technology could be dangerous as well if left unchecked, like an invasion of privacy (if the tech allows for GPS) or removal of bodily control when it fails at random times if it's quadriplegic like you mentioned. Won't pretend that I understand the science behind it and its potential detriments to both mind and society, but this kind of tech can indeed save a lot of lives or at least make it better for those who need it. I suppose we just have to trust that they're ethical enough to not take the ball and go off running with it.

This could be resolved by having a hybrid tissue that can interface between electronics and human tissue. This was sort of the plot of Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Adam Jensen ("I never asked for this") had DNA/genetics that allowed him to adapt to prosthetics more easily than most people. Genetic engineering and DNA profiling would allow us to interface with electronics more easily with more, "natural" connections and prevent the electrodes from receding.

This is incredible and I am so happy for Nolan. To imagine he basically had to shut parts of himself down because he wasn't physically capable to do many things. Boredom and anxiety would be high unless you learned to cope and just be used to doing less, just with your thoughts. But now able to interact with the world, he can practically do anything online and his quality of life went from the worst I can imagine to very positive. Keep it up Nolan, your work in this will only improve the capabilities for others. You are a hero.

So one thing i want to mention is the missing data points leading to a change in algorithm that then reached the same level of connectivity that was originally in place with more data points. This makes me curious what this new algorithm can do on a unit that has all these points still in place. For me, feels lke it might be a much greater leap than where he originally started from
