It's reasonably simple to sum numbers like this. Not always easy but there's a neat trick. If the two numbers a and b (lower and upper bound respectively) are not both odd or both even, just add the two together and multiply by half their difference plus 1. So for 1 and 100: sum is 101, difference plus 1 is 100, halved is 50. 101*50=5050. The same works when a and b are both even or both odd, but then you're gonna be dealing with decimals which you may not want to. So instead remove a and sum from a+1 to b as above, then add a to your final sum afterwards.

reminds me of precalc, where you can define certain sums in algebraic terms. iirc, it was (n^2 + n) / 2, where n = the number you wanted the sum from 0 to n. (in this case, plug in 100)

Rather than having to worry about the amount of odd or even values.. you can also use it to find for example the most likely value to roll for series of dice for example 2 d 20s would be 42/2 21 would be the most likely or the Centerpoint of the combinations since the lowest possible roll is 2 and the highest is 40
