Most people struggle in this game because they they ignore 2 early game artifacts: emergency bubble to save you from drowning and metal pipe so you can explore something deep without big balloons or ship. Vedal no exception, he died twice and 2,5 hours trying to explore 200m deer place.

They're ignored because it's so easy to progress that it's better to just die a few times than fiddle around with those pipes, they're just a waste of time and materials and they're ugly so you have to clean it up too. Coral is fine, but it's not like they're around everywhere. Also, it's better to just use an Air Bladder to get up quick or get back 15 sec of oxygen. They're cheap and you get the recipe just from capturing a Bladderfish.

I just keep track of my oxygen and where nearby oxygen plants are. By the time you genuinely need to go too deep for freediving, you should have a seatruck for portable oxygen. There's almost never an oxygen-related death that's unavoidable, people just either aren't being mindful of how much they have or they get too greedy and dive too deep.
