Oooh that body doubling thing makes so much sense and I didn't even realize I did it! I pretty much only check my email when I'm at work and someone next to me starts going through their email 😂

I did body doubling before I even realized it was a thing. It's been especially helpful for cleaning for me!!

All of that related in some way to me. Another big rule for me is the plants have to be easy to reach. If I have to get a ladder or a chair to reach it, I won't be watering it as much as it needs. As nice as my pothos would look on my shelf, I would let it dry out and die.

Tangentially: I will not put plants that grow super prolifically in leca. It gets hard and harder for me to actually go through with the task of flushing the pot, and they get root rot every time 😭

Such a great video, thanks so much! I'm pretty sure I am ADHD and my plants do get forgotten/neglected and some days I just can't bring myself to look after them even though I know they need it. Then I feel really bad! What you say makes so much sense to me :)

I'm slowly converting to semi hydro as it's easier to see what needs water, plus they can handle a couple of weeks if I'm getting burnout. I also got myself some glass mosiac buttons to colour code my plants based on care needs. If I don't have time/energy to care for all my collection today i can focus on ones with a blue button as they don't handle drying out. It also helps to remind me of light needs when i start rearranging my displays.

As a fellow ADHD plant girl, this was so wonderful to watch. My most resilient plants to my neglect have certainly been my golden pothos and snake plants. Sending so much love to everyone else out there struggling💙

Soooo I didn't even know you have adhd, and I, just today, applied for leave at work because i recently only discovered that I have adhd, and am completely burnt out, and probably have been for years but just kept blaming myself for being lazy. This video is not just about plants for me. Its about everything. My whole life! Thank you! I will now trow out my pest-invested, yellow leaved, parts of my life, and spent more time with the ones I love :)

(I saved the best for last: best tip at the end) Up to a few years ago even pilea's died in my house, due to major neglect. And my house was a biiiigggg mess all the time (neurospicy messy people unite!). Then I thought out a 5-week checklist for my household chores, where I noted all daily, two-daily and weekly etc chores over the 7 days and some bi-weekly tasks etc over the weeks. I can literally check boxes (takes the thinking 'what am I to do next?' aka ADHD paralysis out of the equasion). I included plant care a few times a week. This has helped me sooo much and since then my house is no longer messy and I have a complete house jungle of 70 ish healthy plants. Things that helped me keep up with my plant care: - the checklist I mentioned above, in summer I adjust this checklist to water more often - finding out what plants work for me (I've killed a few :p) - zoning into 3 spaces to not get overwhelmed by having to do all plants at once - MY BEST TIP: for my favorite plants that need to have some moist all the time I use water droppers with a terra cotta foot (not the plastic ones, they seem to overwater). This for me is the best invention ever in plant care. This way even when I have a neurospicy breakdown week where I am completely dysregulated, I know that my favorite plants will survive and if I am capable, I only have to fill those. Most of my other plants can handle some neglect, but also I'm not as attached to them, so no worries if my neglect kills some of them ;-).

This was so helpful! I have struggled lately with feeling so much failure when i cant bring myself to give extra care to sad plants but its true, plants are replacable. Thank you ❤

I keep 2 yearly planners. One for life and appointments and the other I keep a watering / care / preventative for my plants. This helps me greatly to go back and 2 months and see "Oh yeah the PonyTail palm is due for water" I got a staineless steel rolling cart from Sam's Club and I live up my plants on the two shelves so I then just roll them into the kitchen to water / wash / drain or treat and do them in this way by location. Then I fill in on the planner who got what and then I make it fun with plant stickers and have a little colors dot system for it. This helps me too where each plant I take out and then return to its spot in the house so I dont have unfinished plants sitting around then I can sanitize the sink once I'm done. But I have to say in my head the entire time take, treat, return, in my head.

Great video! As far as the rigidity of sticking to the rules *we* created: I survived with ADHD for years on shear anxiety of maintaining my rules of order and following rules. That eventually wears you out and you can’t live like that. Realizing there are no rules, and rules can be broken is key to breaking out of that anxiety. Put systems in place that make plants more forgiving- self watering pots & growing them in semi-hydro helps.

i used to put all of my plants on the windowsill to water them, and even tho the window is right beside them, it was limited space and i had to wait for them to drain, and that just made me not want to do it in days where my executive dysfuncion was too bad, so i just added saucers to every single plant that's not hanging and i just water them where they are and it makes my life SO much easier, i just have 3 hanging ones that i bring to the window and i can do them all at once thank god

Oh Becca, I always love your videos. I know that taking care of our plants can be fun and sometimes difficult, if I have a plant that gets yellow leaves I try and figure out what I did and I know that I learn more about how to take care of them, if they are doing bad and look really bad I sometimes just throw them away, and also if they get bugs then you can learn how to treat them. I really love the Fittonia and have one and sometimes they do good and sometimes not.Yes learning plant care does become so wonderful and I realize what plants are great for me and what are more of a challenge and care, but I have been learning better how to take care of the plants I have and I have been loving the ones I have more and more. I know that when I see my plants they do make me happy. Thanks so much for this great video, have a blessed and beautiful day, sending love and hugs, bye!! 😂🥰🙏🙏👍💖💕💜💜

I was diagnosed with ADHD 7 years ago and the BODY DOUBLING is BY FAR the best thing while I’m doing tasks! I unintentionally found myself watching plant videos while I do plant chores, or fish videos while I do water changes. I realized recently that when I’m watching these videos and hearing people talk about these things THATS what gets me to think about my tasks in that topic and want to get up and do them! (I work from home and can’t tell you how many times listening to your plant chores made me need to take a break to water plants 😂) Also idk if body doubling to fall asleep is a thing but I cannot fall asleep unless I’m listening to a KZbin video or podcast to drown out the racing thoughts! At least for me body doubling feels like either I can hear someone talking about my tasks and keeps me focused cuz it drowns out the random thoughts OR if someone’s there with me they catch me when I loose focus and can go “HEY FOCUS!” And snaps me out of it (but watching you tube videos about the subject work way better cuz no one wants to just come over and watch me do laundry

Also I’ve been using Planta App since it first came out and it’s the ONLY reason I can keep as many plants as I do 😂 I use the reminders/to dos as a “I should check that plant” list
