DISCLAIMER: Please refrain from making uneducated assumptions about an individual's diagnosis. You are allowed to express concern of whether you believe someone is faking or not, however, please refrain from leaving harmful comments regarding them. Autism is a spectrum. Everyone is different and exhibits different traits. You may or may not relate to these individuals and that is fine but do not assume that because you have traits that differ from them, they are not autistic! If an individual is proven to be faking or they have a negative reputation in the community, please feel free to respond to this post or private message me on my socials! Also for clarification: Autism as well as any other neurodiversities represented in these videos are on a spectrum! Everyone is different! Do not use these videos as a means of diagnosing yourself or even questioning your diagnosis! Everyone will have different experiences and struggles! You are perfect the way you are and do not define yourself because a lot of autistic individuals don't like a food but you do, or you like wearing socks compared to those who don't! Be yourself and accept that we are all different!

@@youtubename7819 Not sure I'd be comfortable assuming they aren't nd, but that's really not a good thing to do either way :/ it could end up directing harassment towards them since their info is still clearly visible... so could this video by including that tiktok unedited, actually. He could have talked about this without identifying that person, especially knowing they did end up getting diagnosed as autistic if not adhd. The last thing any of us need is to direct harassment at other nd people for not having a diagnosis before talking about it on the internet. Making online spaces hostile to self id only makes things worse for all of us, especially if that includes people then actually diagnosed afterwards. OP, please be careful about including tiktoks like this. If it's something you can't compromise on, please blur the face and user/video titles of people being talked about in this way to help reduce the potential for it to turn into harassment.

@@youtubename7819 I've gone to his TikTok page, the guy stitching the video is not only extremely against self-diagnosis in quite literally any form (even if the end result is that the person in question GETS AN ACTUAL DIAGNOSIS, such as in the stitched videos seen here! Is there just no winning?) he's dedicated his entire account to absolutely nothing else than harassing, mocking, and tearing down self-DXers and anyone remotely supportive of them--no matter what the reason. He's flat out said that nobody should be posting anything remotely positive, kind, or informative about ADHD on TikTok at all, because it MIGHT increase the chances that people start self-diagnosing (I guess we're just not supposed to have any supportive community at all, and be nothing but miserable? lol). He's also very transphobic, among other things. The person he's mocking uses they/them pronouns--it's VERY visible on their page. He deliberately ignored this and misgendered them on top of harassing them. I don't think it's necessarily right to assume HIS diagnosis status, but you're absolutely right to feel uncomfortable about the video. This guy's a jerk, and definitely not here to uplift our community in any way. Quite upsetting to see something like this included in these otherwise very positive compilations! :/

It's totally fine to self diagnose from tiktok and attempt to find resources to help you cope with what you think you have. BUT literally most if not all self diagnosis actually involves a lot of research to an extent that you are literally learning about every possibility surrounding the disorder and you practically end up knowing almost as much as the person who may be diagnosing you in the future (which I'm assuming the video implied that he didn't do??). I think it's good that TikTok made him want to learn more about himself and got him assessed for other disorders. I do think it's weird that he calls it a "win" that he has autism and PTSD. I understand maybe feeling validated about some things you may have been suspicious of when it comes to how your brain works, but it's strange to view it as like an awesome thing to have like PTSD 😅 PTSD is not a great experience, and often autism can be not great too depending on your needs and how society treats you. So, even though his initial self evaluation wasn't completely accurate, I'm glad he has more information on himself now that can help him maybe deal with symptoms he associated with ADHD.
@Molly-iw1rc
@Molly-iw1rc Жыл бұрын
I'm glad people said that the guy was kind of an ADHD hater because I was getting those vibes but I wasn't entirely sure and now I'm more confident in assuming that we should probably be happy for him being able to get diagnosed with things that can help him clarify himself and also help him cope with some things he couldn't identify before.

I've done extensive research of autism (using respectable and resourceful sites) since I was 14 and first being told by my parents that "you might be autistic", and I've also taken a test by "Imbrace Autism" and many other reputable test sites several times, and they've all given scores anywhere from being very likely to be autistic or the highest possible score for a diagnosis. I'm self diagnosing only because 1) the medical industry is 5 years behind, and definitely not up to date regarding autism, and 2) the first and last "professional" I went to see to get a diagnosis flat out told refused the idea that I was autistic because I didn't show the stereotypical traits, and that I got a really high score (the stuff he gave me to do was for toddlers and young kids, basically. Keep in mind I was 14-15 during this).

Yeah I wasn't sure about it either. Like if you don't like their videos, just don't watch them, instead of mocking them or trying to expose them in an accusatory way? Also totally get how the guy reacted to his final diagnosis, it's not really "oooh I'm glad I got PTSD, depression and all", it's more like "at least I finally have some answers". I used to wonder if I had Tourette, among other possibilities, before I got diagnosed as autistic. It's not uncommon...

0:26 Okay, so, I don't like drawing attention to myself (more than what would be reasonably necessary for safety) in uncomfortable settings if I can help it, especially on the road, so I don't participate in, "honk if you ___," things... but I have always taken the statements as being genuine. It never once occurred to me that these were placed sarcastically. That someone might have forgotten that it's there and may get confused, upset, violent at the fact that you're honking because they forgot that they put the sticker there, yes. That it was a sarcasm from the start? What? That's news to me, thank you. I will continue to not honk at these, with additional reasoning.

Once when I was in grade 2 my class was playing a game where everyone got a number, and if their number is called they get to make up some sort of physical movement, like a small dance, that everyone would copy. I was super excited for my turn, until my number was called, and before I have a chance to do anything, everyone started copying my stim. I was so confused because I had waited so long for my turn and I didnt even know what stimming was, and I was so upset that they were copying my stimming (which I didnt even notice I was doing at the time) and that my turn was skipped, that I got super angry and had a mini mental breakdown

3:41 this is cause people who are nd (noted more in people with adhd) tend to have shittier object permanence.
@Molly-iw1rc
@Molly-iw1rc Жыл бұрын
Fun fact: Object permanence is actually the term used for babies when they forget about their parents when they leave a room or hide behind their hands during stuff like peek-a-boo. The actual reason many nd people experience something similar is because they have a weaker working memory, which impacts their ability to remember and be aware of multiple things at once. Usually, people use working memory to remember what they did in a day or where they left something, but ND people might have a worse working memory so they can't easily keep track of those things. So, it mimics the experience of a baby with object permanence issues, but it is actually caused by working memory issues and isn't called object permanence when it happens outside of a baby. I just wanted to share, I hope it didn't come off like I was trying to correct you per say/gen

Gotta be honest, I felt super uncomfortable vibes from the dude who seemed to be happy he might have ADHD. Like, I understand that it's important for us neurodivergent people to find strength in what's otherwise a pretty hard thing to live with, but going as far as to WANT to be neurodivergent seems weird to me. Unless I misunderstood him and he was just happy he finally got an answer to questions about himself he never knew the answers to? Though it doesn't really help when it makes me feel like a fraud :/
@Molly-iw1rc
@Molly-iw1rc Жыл бұрын
Same I couldn't tell what he meant when he seemed happy to have ADHD or seemed happy to be autistic (outside of maybe feeling validated or feeling a deeper understanding of himself or things he has experienced). I think sometimes social media can make the idea of neurodivergence into something cool, quirky, or romantic in some ways because most popular neurodivergent content doesn't go into the bad/unpretty sides of neurodivergence and doesn't always include all types of neurodivergence (like some people still think that neurodivergent only applies to ADHD and Autism). So, many people who would consider themselves as people who want to be "unique" might want to be neurodivergent to confirm their needs to be seen a certain way. But I think that anyone who romanticizes neurodivergence is a part of a minority because most people demonize it (in a sense, and usually without realizing they are doing so). So I don't know if it makes you more uncomfortable to think of the idea of someone being excited about being neurodivergent as a very small group of people and generally not likely to occur.
