The self diagnosis part is so real… I don’t wanna be WRONG so I wanna CHECK but healthcare is EXPENSIVE ahh

I never gotten an official diagnosis because South Florida in the 1980s and 90s were still backwards when it came to any diagnosis so they just assume Intellectual Disabilities... of course, back then they used the term mental Retardation. 😞🤷 So many mislabels meant I never got the proper treatments. Thank God my mom was hardcore and did what she could do. Individuals with the labels I had been given never get out of the oppressive system. My mom was a big anti-institution advocate as well. So many were trying to convince her to disable me to receive benefits and place me in institutions to get even more money out of my disability. My mom was like F^

i once had a sleepover at my house for my birthday party and had a short meltdown because my friends were talking while the movie was playing, my m&ms fell over so that they were all over my bed and no one was listening to me. I really felt so bad for shouting at them but I was so stressed. Since then I never had more than one person at a sleepover😬

I love sleepovers but I usually end up either crying at night, only being able to fall asleep after everyone else or when I pet the host’s pet, or walking around until my legs get tired or the parents ask me what I’m doing up so late. Almost all of the people have the nastiest carpet texture and I’m supposed to sleep with nothing between me and the floor? Nah.

Oh my gosh- if you can, find and read my comment I just made about this, I think we’re experiencing the same thing! But to sum it up in case it got buried, I was talking about how I think I got overstimulated by the speed of the video. I love waiting, have tons of patience, and procrastinate chronically and severely (I mean seriously, it’s 5 am for me rn. I have not slept). Try slowing it down to 0.5 speed! I did that and instantly calmed down, plus the speed felt normal to me. Maybe we just run slower than the world?

Mannnn the end one about smiling before masking made me unexpectedly tear up. As I got older and all of the kids around me were getting braces to straighten their teeth, and my family couldn't afford them for me, I stopped showing teeth in pictures altogether. Also both my psychiatrist and therapist agree that I'm autistic, but unfortunately they can't diagnose me. I have to get a diagnosis from a PCP, and mine doesn't listen to me so I'm basically shit out of luck 🙃 There are so many symptoms on here that I have and that people around me just think are my "little quirks" - like, naw my dude.

Yk I’ve started to notice that people with autism are completely either overlooked or treated differently, yet people with anxiety or other mental “illnesses” have a lot of the same problems and are treated normally. Autism doesn’t change anything in humanity, the same as anxiety or other things. I’m not saying they’re the same or overlooking other things, but people treat them so differently- it’s not okay.

Then, one day, she shows up to a family event saying "guys we're literally all autistic. It's genetic." Then I started talking about my experience figuring out I'm autistic and saying all the things that I realized were just me being autistic. Then, she says, "you're probably the only one of us who isn't autistic" when I had it the worst out of all of us. I had all kinds of sensory issues, I got made fun of for my special interest, etc. Funny thing is, the siblings she was talking about later got tested, and none of them ended up being autistic. I got tested, and I got diagnosed. She still doesn't believe me.

Yes! That’s my exact problem. Like my parents are so clearly autistic my friends can see it. And then my mom says something along the lines of “you’re just weird” or “oh yeah my brother does that, it’s normal” whenever I bring up sensory issues, weird obsessions, etc. The worst is when she hits me with her and my dads friends, like hmm maybe your friends have those issues too because they are autistic too. I mean both of my parents felt completely out of place until they went to science fiction conventions and the SCA (think renaissance festival but no fairytale things) I am talking about classic 80’s and 90’s sci fi con. You think that’s a coincidence? No, they literally could not watch the Big Bang theory because it reminded them too much of some people they are friends with. I love my mom with all my heart but sincerely I don’t think she understands how much it hurts when she says things like that, claims im putting myself in a box and that I don’t have it. All because she has seen the most extreme cases. I find it entirely insane considering how supportive she was with my anxiety, despression, adhd, cyclic vomiting syndrome diagnosis’ and even coming out as bisexual after I was engaged to my now husband. It just doesn’t make sense to me.
