Hi Dr. Eric Guillemette,😃, I researcched that even a mild second concussion can be harmful when it happens soon after the first one that's still causing issues. So, like, how hard of an impact or how many g-forces applied the second time around would start to cause problems? Actually, during our ivy final tennis league quarterfinals my teammate whacked me accidentally but hard on the right side of my head with her racket as she fiercely swung at the ball. I felt a little dizzy but taking it lightly I kept playing. However, just 4 days later in the semis, she smacked the very same spot on my noggin again😰 with the racket. It's been 1 month and I'm still feelin' all woozy and cruddy. I'm worried about getting a second impact so soon after the first...... The fact i find that a twin trauma soon after the first one can potentially cause permanent damage due to possibly killing of some precious neurons due to lowered energy levels in the brain is freaking out...😬 Can you estimate how much force the second impact in during the symptomatic phase, perhaps in g-forces, in that closed proximity period, at which a second concussion can pose cumulatively harmful effects so that i can assure myself that I didn't take on way worse invisible harm, ya feel? 🙄

Hi Dr. Eric Guillemette Im'ma from (MIT) university freshmen. I've encountered a recent incident that has left me in need some advice . I wanted to share that I recently experienced a concussion 3 days ago, and unfortunately, it has occurred again in the same right side. I'm wondering, would a sudden sideways motorbike collision with a cycle at a speed of 30 km/hr., causing a forceful movement of my torso to lurch and my head in relative (lateral flexion) in the same area of the first concussion ,can it potentially cause damage to the previously concussed neurons ? very worried since i am difficulty speaking like finding right words and articulating fluently and even slight difficulty understanding words and its been 1 month no recovery? i initially have no symptoms after the incidence like nausea or dizziness , does it cause any permanent deficits or it is just temporary ? and Does this injury lead to the diminution of a handful of neurons?

Hi, an accident like the one you're describing could definitely cause a concussion. If your previous head injury was not fully resolved it sometimes doesn't take much to cause further damage resulting increased symptoms. There's always the potential for improvement but there's no doubt as time goes on I would highly recommend check by a healthcare provider who is trained in head injuries. Typically the sooner you get appropriate rehabilitation the better your outcomes can be.

@@dr.ericguillemettedc9355 actually i sustained the first impact on head to the right side of my head while riding in an auto-rickshaw en route to group campus. The road we were traversing was uneven and in poor condition. Feeling fatigued after the rugbyI relaxed my neck muscles and was dozing off. The auto crossed over a ditch in the road. There was a sharp jolt. I was sitting on the side of the auto closest to the ditch. The auto tilted down sharply on my side when the wheel went into the ditch. My neck was loose and my head was unrestrained. My head whipped to the right side. At the same moment, the wheel came out of the ditch. The auto leveled out again quickly. The metal bar on my side hit the right side of my head forcefully. This all happened very fast, in 0.4 to 0.7 seconds I estimate. My head was accelerated sharply to the right. The collision with the bar was forceful. This all happened after the auto crossed the ditch, and the second impact occured just after 3 days of this first one ? ? dr eric do u think based on the severity of the impacts Does this injury lead to the diminution of a handful of neurons?
