Ninja Nerds!
In this lecture Professor Zach Murphy will present on several concepts related to the spinal cord meninges. We hope you enjoy this lecture and be sure to support us below!
Correction at 5:31 - There is only one layer of the SPINAL Dura Mater. This is different in comparison to the Dura Mater in the brain which has a two layers: an outer perisoteal layer and an inner meningeal layer. Thanks Ninja Nerds!

Thank you Professor, Does that mean that in the spinal, the epidural space is only a potential space (not really there) and in the brain, epidural space is a real space?
@Radjehuty
@Radjehuty 8 ай бұрын
@@vincentcyrilliansantoso9858no there really is an epidural space superficial to the dura in the spinal cord. It contains fat and vascular tissue. The layer superficial to the epidural space in the spinal cord would be the ligamentum flavum posteriorly and the posterior longitudinal ligament anteriorly to the spinal cord.

There’s only one layer of duramater in the spinal cord. The outer layer of dura in the cranium doesn’t travel into the spinal cord it’s continuous with periosteum of skull bones at the foramina. Correction at 5:31

I have a doubt. You say that the epidural space is between the 2 layers of dura mater. So, if It is "epi-dural", It means epi=Upon; It is upon dura mater and It can not be between its 2 layers. The definition that you give here, actually is in contrast with the definition of epidural space in the skull, where It Is between periosteal layer of dura mater and the bone. So I do not know why also some Books and Wikipedia and you say that definition. It does not make sense. When you speak about epidural hematoma, you see blood between the bone and dura mater in the epidural space in the skull. How can you give 2 different meanings about the location of the epidural space? I need an explanation. Thanks

The primary function of the meninges and of the cerebrospinal fluid is to protect the central nervous system. The pia mater is the meningeal envelope that firmly adheres to the surface of the brain and spinal cord.👍
