It is not surprising that stress increases neurogensis. Literally a man has to come up with wits to survive. Also think of hunter gatherer hutsman going on starvation/famine and keto mode to increase neurogensis for survival. Hormesis, ketosis, fasting, cardio, engaging hippocampus or any activity that targets vestibular system or balance or using navigational module (for instance driving for Uber or Lyft that constantly uses GPS), travel to rewire brain (I myself ceased 15 year marijuana dependence with travel which basically stimulates your brain nonstop with tremendous dopamine influx...)... nootropics and even caffeine increases neurogenesis. Learning new stuffs like juggling, unicycling, rollerskating or skateboarding or anything that includes motor activity tremendous increases neurogenesis. This brings me to a new question. Can too much neurogensis lead to manic depressive mood swings? We all heard of creative spurts of manic geniuses like Beethoven, caffeine fueled Balzac or say Van Gogh. Finally, as a layperson, I personally prefer running. Amazing nootropic. But sometimes being on a continuous learning binge may result in schizophrenia like symptoms - manic- as the subject may be stimulated too much (overstimulation).... Common speak? Moderation in everything. There is a reason why evolution designed us to trim and pare brain cells as we proceed. We don't wanna get f****ed up. Less is more. Finally Paul Stamet who is expert on mushrooms vouched on Joe Rogan how certain psychedelics result in massive neurogenesis. This may not be not necessarily untrue as Kundalini rising from yogic chakra or partaking in sensory deprivation can open up third eye, ajna chakra and thus you gain whole access to brain. Basically enlightenment. I am more interested if traumatic incidents, NDE or say jarring incidents of Awakenings such as loved ones dying can indeed increase and result in massive neurogenesis and rewiring. It's good to think of neurogenesis as a correlation to rewiring.

great to see evidence of neurogenesis recording stressful experience. Addiction may have alternative explanation - mouse with neurogenesis can remember and replay the drugged experience, thus less demanding to be drugged as strongly / frequently

Always wanted to use "Immunohistochemistry" in a sentence. :)
