Hello Massage Nerds, today I am going to talk about how our brain can adapt to new neurological pathways. I will touch on the difference between neuromuscular and medical massage. Quick definition of Neuroplasticity: The word "Neuroplasticity" is also known as Neuralplasticity, or brain plasticity, is the ability of neural networks in the brain to change through growth and reorganization.
Medical Massage is usually done with the client fully clothed. Medical massage includes making comprehensive assessments and documentation. It is not thumb intensive so you learn to save your thumbs by using tools and your fingers & forearms. The therapist is able to communicate with medical professionals and understand medical terminology. We provide high quality hands on, soft tissue manipulation. Stretches and strengthening exercises are encouraged.
Neuromuscular Massage is very specific work engaging all the muscles associated with an injury. It is thumb intensive, however, we can also use tools. It is detailed work engaging the client to participate in their own recovery. Passive and Active Range of Motion are incorporated.
Combining both techniques with other modalities such as myofascial release & Swedish will make a holistic approach to your massage therapy.

This is true! They are so guarded that it’s difficult for them to trust someone else with their body. Some therapist don’t realize how sacred it is for us to be working on bodies & helping them heal! ❤️🙏
@ladyscarfaceangel4616
@ladyscarfaceangel4616 2 жыл бұрын
@@MassageTherapeutics915 It very much is sacred! I always meditate deeply when giving massage. That way I'm in tune with my client's body & I'm listening for the cues. The body will talk to us if we really listen. We read muscles the same way the blind read. On days when I'm unable to focus or have a talkative client, I can tell my massages aren't as good. The days when I'm completely focused though, giving massage makes me feel just as amazing as I hopefully make my clients feel! I always start my massage with a small prayer & end with a bow to thank my client for trusting me.

@@ladyscarfaceangel4616 omg this comment is amazing! You’re what I like to teach about. I’ve learned something new from you. “We read the body the way the blind read Braille”. Omg this is fantastic. Very important for us to focus & have an intent of helping the body heal itself. Thank you for your feedback!!!

Love this topic & the content Maria. Thank you. The Body Keeps the Score is a great book! I've studied a lot about trauma & it's connection with the Mind / Body. So fascinating. I, like you, have experienced many clients that have had varying unfortunate experiences & the power of safe, therapeutic touch is such an amazing tool to assist in release / healing. Other authors I'd recommend are Gabor Mate & Peter A. Levine.

I really appreciate your comments Donna! We’re world’s apart yet our massage practice is similar! We do create a safe, zen environment to help our clients heal & that can make all the difference in their healing! I’ve been meaning to get the Peter Levine book so thank you for the recommendations. Hope things are better in the UK 🙏❤️Create a great day.

Hello Kerala I appreciate you too! For your support & kind words. The best thing to do with someone after a stroke is to stimulate the muscles & blood flow. They can cramp from the lack of movement so massage really helps to continue stimulating the muscles. Doing passive stretches & resistance stretching helps too.
