Neurosis have been putting out consistently good albums for decades but that album just cannot be fucked with.. I'd also put Times of grace right up there with it as well
@marxman68968 жыл бұрын
Unpopular opinion: Souls At Zero is Neurosis' best album, much better than TSiB or Times of Grace.
@nickhurst47728 жыл бұрын
DJ_Marxman honestly they've put out so much good shit if someone's fav wasn't TSIB I can't argue haha

My favorite metal album of all time. Would love to see this or _Times of Grace_.
@Exgrmbl8 жыл бұрын
+DJ_Marxman It's my favourite as well. It has a sound and style that's just really unique and quite different from later releases.
@deloreanized8 жыл бұрын
I think TIMES OF GRACE is... everything. That's NEUROSIS. To me, it's impossible not to use that album as the equator/peak/reference point to go back and forth through their massive discography. That said, I believe they are constantly growing as artists, gaining consistency and expanding the scope of their canvas record after record.

Well, he called the latest Ghojira album "bland", so I am not too sure that I rate his metal opinions that high. Also, he hasn't even reviewed the Inter Arma record at all, even if it's probably the best sludge/doom metal record to come out in a long while, so for metal reviews I go elsewhere. On another non-metal note, I also expect him to disregard the new amazing and highly regarded The Dear Hunter album ("Act V"), as I don't think he likes progressive rock at all. Oh well, I still find this site good though, but primarily for noise rock recommendations and the occasional experimental hip hop artist such as Death Grips or Danny Brown.

One of the band's members, Scott Kelly, wrote and performed the score for a Hamlet production put on at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival this year. It was one of the coolest things I've seen. The metal worked really well. Can't wait to give this band and album a listen.

Always enjoy watching your reviews. Just wondering if you're planning on reviewing the new Francis and the Lights album? That guy is super talented and has been working so hard for so many years. And he dropped his new supposedly breakout album last week and it is getting practically no coverage by any review sites and I don't understand why. I think it's one of the best albums of the year if not the best. Just curious to hear other people's opinions.

that's an astute observation about modern metal production being used as a crutch, and I totally agree. The nice thing about music such as this that is produced in a bit older style, is that if it doesn't have enough "girth" you can just turn it up or worst case scenario also turn up your subwoofer. But there's no way to decompress or dynamicize music produced in the modern compressed style, other than getting it on wax in the hopes that it's a more dynamic master.
