I did it! PhDone! PhinisheD! I'm a doctor! I have finally completed my Doctorate in Neuroscience. Graduate school over these last six years has been a wonderful, frustrating, gratifying, arduous experience. A few short months ago, I started writing my PhD dissertation, which marked the end of that experience. This video serves as an inside look to my thesis writing process, as well as a time capsule of this moment in my life. I hope you enjoy it.

How come I accidentally got this amazing video on my youtube while literally struggling with submitting my thesis in Biomedical sciences too?! 😐 glad to see you are proud of your experience👏👏👏 mine didnt go the way I wanted to, busy supervisors with no technician in the lab and I suffered every bit to get experiments done, deep learning curves sometimes, no scholarship after year 3 and even having to pay tution fees from that point. I can just see mine as a character development journy, with a huge cost though. Hope I get it submitted by the end of this month.

I just started my PhD in industrial organizational psychology.. been in program for 4 weeks and it’s been a rough 4 weeks. I’ve lost sleep experienced a little anxiety but I’m hopeful.

My dear friend, welcome to the club. In your first semester you should read as many as materials related to your work. Lost sleep is normal for all PhD candidates but in a week you should take a day to take a long sleep to recover your body system. In my first semester, I spend more than 14 hours a day, from 8 am to 10 pm in the library to complete my first chapter and read a lot of material that related to my work. PhD is an individual and unique journey . Your experience will be different to mine. It will be a difficult journey but never stop and keep moving. All the best with everything.

We all say that, we all pass through this... you will never be done whatever how much time is left.. there is always room to re read to improve to add stuff... just do your work, accept what you can achieve in the time left and beleive that this is the best you can give in this situation ...it will be fine ... wish u all the best

Yeah, holy crap do I feel ya. I had the horror story of having to push back the start date of my current job because I simply couldn't finish the work and the writing, and I had far more than a month.... luckily it worked out. We had different formats for the chapters than you, each chapter for us was an individual project, not necessarily a results or methods chapter. You wrote your dissertation hella fast tho...props.

I did my PhD. It was a very interesting resilience journey. But to be fair, I am not sure if it was worth it. Worked like crazy for 4 years even during weekends while earning a low salary. Now I am happy in industry, but if I could go back in time, I would have gone straight to industry instead of doing a PhD.

Congratulations for keeping your eye on the ball. If I could share a brief anecdote. I earned my Ph.D. in 1990 (I was 33) when phone books were still a thing and one of my Engineering Profs was pulling the chain of the Grad students in his class and said "I don't know why some of you are so intent on getting your Ph.D. All it does it get "Dr." in front of your name in the phone book"...it was about as comedic a line as I had ever heard in an Engineering course and it always makes me chuckle when I recall the moment (a Ph.D. Engineer who works for a large American defense contractor.

Yup! To be fair, probably 20% of that were citations, which were automatically generated with a citation management software, and included plenty of pages of figures. In the end it came out to about 50,000 words - basically a NaNoWriMo novel!
