I was stationed in Germany back in the mid 1980s, and I went to visit this wonderful and beautiful castle. I loved the outside, but the inside of this castle took my breath away. It was the most beautiful site that I have ever seen. The paintings, the floor designs, and the construction is outstanding. If and when I get the chance to go back I would go and visit this marvelous castle again. It should be considered one of the great wonders of the world.

King Ludwig was not insane, but had been declared insane by someone who had had no interaction with him. He did spend quite a bit of money on his castles... others wanted to control his spending and control him. When he didn't cooperate they had him declared insane. He didn't drown either. He was an avid swimmer, and the water was too shallow for him to have drown himself. There was no water in his lungs, and some evidence that he might have been shot in the back. Personally I think his family/descendants know exactly what happened in the time leading up to his exile, and about his death, but the maintain the secrecy to keep people intrigued and interested. It has made everyone involved a ton of money over the decades. I've visited his castles and they are absolutely breathtaking! I feel sadness when visiting them, though... sad that he didn't live to see Neuschwanstein finished and that he died at such a young age, and under such strange and tragic circumstances.

It is oft that I fear of drifting away into what Ludwig II has drifted to. Sometimes I can feel myself sinking and drowning into my romanticized world. A beautiful, radiant, and ideal land unrestricted by reality and the cruel society. What a life awaits me?! Trouble, only trouble. Ah... I will either be stunned by the reality harshly and get kicked back on the ground or live in an eternal, everlasting fairy tail... insanely and insane... May the time show me...

windstorm1000 Oh, well. Two years passed since the post. Thankfully I got the hold of my head. :) But still, sometimes I am hoping for a relapse. It was like some sort of emotional drugs, and oh how I loved being on that edge of sanity... For now, I am just following the hilarious show the the world politicians are throwing. There it seems that sane people are in the minority. :/ Anyway, thanks for the reply. I appreciate it.

***** I wish I did. I am not a big fan of Disney fairy-tales. I grew up being almost totally cut off of the popular Western culture. :/ In fact, there are still some classics of Disney that I haven't watched, which include Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, and even Snow White! Although I am very familiar with the stories, as I have come across them damn too often in from the Soviet cartoons. And hell they are grimmer, way grimmer than their Disney counterparts. I am generally more of a fan of non-princess Disney cartoons and/or animations. More to the point, I just have large mood swings between being some idealistic romantic to dead-hard realist. At this very moment, I am closer to the latter, though not a 'dead-hard' case yet, lol.

Visited Neuschwanstein castle on May 25th 2016, after visiting the Munnich Residenz, and most particularly, NYMPHENBURG Palace, which keeps in an adjacent building, King Ludwig II sleighs and carriages, (a must see!) and pics of all his horses Also Nymphemburg is the birthplace of Ludwig II on August 25th, 1845, out of a Prince of Bavaria, Maximilian and a princess of Prussia. My advise is... Take time to visit The Residenz in Munnich, The Nymphemburg place of birth, and site of his sleighs and carriages, then take time to visit Alpsee Lake with two of the most interesting castles... HohenSchwangau, the summer place of youth years purchased and remodeled by Ludwig's father, King Maximilian II, where Ludwig and his brother Otto grew up and spent their summers. If properly planned, perhaps you can visit both castles, but time is crutial, for both, Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein. We had no time to visit both. Only were able to take a pic of us with Hohenschwangau on the horizon. What a beautiful place Neuschwanstein Castle is... If possible, stay 1 night, they have nearby accommodations... Perhaps if you plan the tour up to the hill, you can visit both in a day, but we could not. The appointment time given did not allowe it... Now we gotta to come back to see some more... We took a tour that leaves the Munnich Central Train Station each morning, meeting point is 9:45AM, by the Starbuck Café. We pre-booked our reservations on the website. The tour includes the train ticket, and the bus that takes you to the village. Entrance to Newschwanstein Castle is 12 Euros extra, and does not include Hohenschwangau Castle, as there is no time to return same day on Bus/Train to Munnich. If you can stay 1 night, perhaps it would be best, or perhaps, leave the train station on your own earlier, if there is a train and bus earlier than 11AM... The bus to the village was not public transportation, it was a private tour bus arranged by the company. So no clue as to public transport from train station to the Schwangau Village, or perhaps a taxi would do. Worth the tour... Awesome location. Remember, only by tour can be visited, otherwise, the long line wait consumes your time there. We were able to get appointment to visit Neuschwanstein at 1:30PM, so we took time for lunch upon arrival. Even though we left the train station I believe by 10:30AM, it took us all day to visit Neuschwanstein and return to Munnich by 7:30-800PM. The scenery is previous as well.

It is indeed quite beautiful and ornate inside the palace. It was of course designed based on the Palace of Versailles in Paris of which King Ludwig was so fascinated. Neuschwanstein was never completed, because Ludwig ran out of money. The Hoestein castle across the way from Neuschwanstein is also lovely I personally consider the Palace of Versailles to be the palace by which all others are judged in the world. If you haven't been to Versailles, plan for an entire day, literally, to see the grounds and building. Rent a golf cart of some form of ride, because it will wear you out walking the massive grounds of the palace.

But… WHO exactly is that narrator?
@elizaemmagee
@elizaemmagee 10 жыл бұрын
The cinematography in this is beautiful. The narration doesn't quite jive with other accounts of Ludwig's life. Here it sounds as though Ludwig had no choice in the matter of allying with Austria and losing the Prussian War, and was thus devastated by it. In actuality, as king he chose to back Austria, lost, but ultimately didn't care much about affairs of state at all. He was living in his own land of make-believe. Also, the history between him and Wagner was truly one of an unhealthy codependency. Worth reading up on!
