Colorism in the LGBTQ+ community is insane. I am very fair skinned (European-descended) in a country in the Global South. My partner is considerably darker than the country's average. So many people in the community (people I thought were my friends) would ask why I am with him, they would always (and only) reference his skin shade. As if that was the only qualifier to date someone, or refer to his skin tone as a flaw that has to be ignored.

@phlora2 ай бұрын
I 100% agree colourism is insane, and I’m so sorry you’ve personally suffered with these issues but just reading your comment, I belive unfortunately it is because of where you live. Global North and Global South are terms that denote a method of grouping countries based on their defining characteristics with regard to socioeconomics and politics. Global South broadly comprises Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia (excluding Israel, Japan, and South Korea), and Oceania (excluding Australia and New Zealand). Most of the Global South's countries are commonly identified as lacking in their standard of living, which includes having lower incomes, high levels of poverty, high population growth rates, inadequate housing, limited educational opportunities, and deficient health systems, among other issues. Additionally, these countries' cities are characterized by their poor infrastructure. Opposite to the Global South is the Global North, which roughly encompasses Northern America, Europe, Israel, Japan, South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand. These social, political and economic pressures all add up, to political issues involving LGBTQ+ especially when the global south includes the least developed countries in the world. Most of the countries in global north have legalised gay marriage.

@finneganfox64702 ай бұрын
This is reoccurring thing in catfish where the hosts(Usually Nev) look at the saucy conversations between victim and catfish. I know sometimes the victim shares it ,like in this case but yeah so gross. I think Shaquan was the bigger PoS in this regard bc these were real nudes only meant for him !!
@xTheXHelloXKittyx2 ай бұрын
men.... they are so quick to share nudes from others.
@Lespritdelescali2 ай бұрын
I feel like Nev would have more grounds to call it a wash if Shaquan hadn't used Yari's real photos. When you put it in the context that Shaquan was so young when things started and the situationship has been going on so long, it's easier to see why he would act out and do something insane. But reasonable insanity would have been using random pictures of a model or something he found online, not a real person who trusted him. The real victim here is Yari. I feel like this is an episode where the focus should have been the catfisher apologizing to the person whose pictures were stolen, not the person they catfished. It's much more likely that Shaquan would have realized how screwed up everything is with Devon if he had to try to explain it to another person.
@AikoFox2 ай бұрын
I completely agree. This should have turned into the Shaquan and Yari show with Shaquan being held accountable being made to explain this to and apologize to Yari. I understand him having no self respect, being young and made to feel like less but that doesn't make it right for him to turn around and dehumanize someone else(Yari) using his pics and videos like that without his consent. I think that this would have been the way for Shaquan to really learn just how messed up all of this was, to not turn this into a pattern and never do this again.

Colorism was RIFE in this episode and I think it's obvious that while things can't truly be a wash Deven was so inherently unsympathetic and rude that it was easier to like Shaquan much more. He's caught up on an ain't shit man while Deven was fully conscious of how he was using Shaquan to his advantage. 🌱 With this one done I am pleading for Kristen and Sarah now. In the Closet people who dont engage in the Queer Community or Spaces AT ALL Because they worry someone they know will find out and Out Them before they are ready or feel it is safe enough to come out...and SOME have Internal Homophobia that causes them to avoid these spaces And I agree the NEED to come out is wild...but also some people need to hide their sexuality or they will be killed....so I feel thats why so much importance is put on it; Unlike Straight Folks...We dont get to JUST EXIST...for Eons now Killing Queer people has been seen as "Morally" Okay....because We were seen as "Broken" or "Unclean" or even worse if you're a religious person "Sinners"... You gotta remember people who were any kind of Queer were treated basically the same as criminals...Unless they could pass with everyone else

Honestly, I don’t think him not liking Shaquan had much to do with colorism. As a gay black man myself, I would like to share some insight. What I’ve noticed is that gay men (especially gay black men) prefer to be with masculine presenting men. To keep it short, some reasons for this are (internalized homophobia, some are still Downlow and having a masc presenting boyfriend, they can pretend to be homeboys when they’re out, or it’s just their preference). And Shaquan is a bit more feminine than Jay. They’re both equally handsome but I’ve noticed that most black men will have sex with men who are bit more on the feminine side but prefer to be in relationships with masculine presenting men.

At some point a person gotta have respect for themselves. And I know from experience trying to wait for someone to choose u will just lead to u suffering. That person knows how u feel and will keep taking advantage of that fact to get whatever they want from u (whether that be how u show up for them, ur emotions, or ur body). If they don't put u first from the very beginning then stop putting them first. Also the fact they all were sharing this man's nudes is messed up

Why hate on someone who most likely knows the same struggles you went through due to the color of your skin? It's so fucked imo. I hope no one starts hating them selves because they are darker then others of there same race but I know there are people that probably do and that's sad. There are enough ass holes of other races hating you for the color of your skin you don't need to help fuel the hate by doing the same shit to your own people. As a queer, i always tell people we're never really done coming out. Each new person we meet, we have to figure out whether or not they're a safe person to be honest with. Also routinely hear poc saying being queer is even harder in their community so while Deven turned out to be trash, that bit about selectively coming out makes sense

Saved this for when my sandwich got here! Jayda, this episode is cracking me up😂, the inserts are too good. I always love the commentary you provide, because it's sorely needed to address things like you did in this video.
