To quote Red vs Blue, about the ending of a heros sacrifice... "The hero, never gets to see that happy ending. They'll never know the day is truly saved. In the end, they just gotta have faith.... ain't that a bitch?"

One of the reasons I'll always come back to this channel is the way you tell a story. I felt the grief you experienced seeing the cycle start all over again just from the way you were talking. You will always be my on my primary monitor regardless of it's the first time I've seen the video or if I'm watching one of the Halo videos during dinner again o7 Happy New Year Thane Bishop and the community

That steel chair joke really landed for me - literally thinking about it days later. At one of the emotional peaks of the video you also SIMULTANEOUSLY land a campy punchline? And its humour is compounded by the exasperated forced delivery? Absolute Comedy. Great Writing. Couldn't be done without the similarity phenomenal video surrounding it.

I need you to know that this video had me ugly crying all over again over this game. This game haunts me and fuels me and it feels so silly but I’m watching this on New Year’s Eve alone and I get to for a second not feel so alone so thank you for helping me feel weirdly seen

We spend the entire journey associating the death of things with their corruption through the black flowers. It's so ingrained into us that that's how the world works, that even our character looks _surprised_ to see when from the loss of Neva comes the birth of the white butterflies. Like _this_ grief is different from the ones before. The way Neva is in conversation with Gris as stories about death is awesome.

Thanks for such a thoughtful and emotional analysis. When I play a game I tend to focus on learning the systems and mechanics, often missing the meaning and sentiment. I enjoy the game in a new light when I ride along with your thoughtful experience.

My interpretation is that the opening scene is the end of the game, where Neva dies and we have her cub, and then we go back in time to find out how we got here and the game itself is following the journey up to that moment. Neva dies in the beginning, and then "again" at the end, but thanks to our work and her sacrifice, her cub won't have to endure the same.

I never even heard of this game until today, to be honest I haven't played most games that you make videos on, but I have watched every single one of your videos. I really enjoy listening to you talk about these worlds and what make them great and how they reflect on us. I can't even find the words to express how this video made me feel other than how your voice sounded in the end when Neva died, that emotion is what I was feeling right there with you. In these short 31 and a half minutes I managed to get attached to a character enough to mourn just a little. This is by far one of your best videos you have produced so far, 10/10. I still think you should make a video on The Last of Us. I want to know what your perspective on a game/series that I feel captures the human condition the most. Honstly I think you can get as much milage out of that as you did as cyberpunk, and I can see each story arc getting it's own video.

Wandersong is my perfect game. Every now and then I like to do a self-check by thinking “What’s my favorite ____?” And my answer for video game used to be “Oh it depends on my mood.” But that time I realized it didn’t anymore. The range of 3-4 answers had collapsed down into one. Whew, guess I wanted to get that out and didn’t realize it. Fantastic video, thank you for sharing it with us!

Its wonderful to see someone who cares so much about what they do! Your videos are incredibly insightful, and theyve given me a lot to think about when it comes to several games ive played and enjoyed. I won't say keep uo the good work, just keep going as you are. It's enough. On another note, have you ever played the Ori games?

Hey Thane! Haven't seen you since we took out Maliketh. While I loved Elden Ring and it is absolutely a special game for me, Neva is something that hits home... much harder, on a personal level. If you've never played the game 'Gris', which is also by the same studio that made Neva, i think it's worth checking out. Sure it's an older game, having come out around 2015/2016 (iirc)... but i think it also had the same level of impact at the time. This video you just put up... thoughtful, well-spoken... superbly done! 💪😎

Fun name facts: "Alba" means dawn, while the wintery "Neva" appears to be from "snow" or "snowy". Both names connect to light, either through radiance or colour. You play as the beginning of the day accompanied by the end of the year. Beginning and end in two differently significant scales of time. The cycle is foreshadowed by their names. As if to remind you that even if a terrible year is over, there's always a new day that follows. Like Alba raises Neva, the days raise the years. Seize the days and make them count. Happy New Year, and a happy new day.
