Ace stuntman Dale Van Sickel plays the badman Sharkey in this movie. Actor/stuntman since the early 30s he had been stunt double for many actors including Tyrone Power, Robert Taylor, Dana Andrews & Clark Gable. Driving a car in a stunt for the Disney movie No Deposit, No Return in `76 the car skidded out of control & crashed resulting in Dale Van Sickel suffering brain damage from which he never recovered.

Jeff Clarke -- Interesting stuff. Also of interest, this movie was directed by Yakima Canutt -- a most accomplished stuntman himself. Some of Canutt's stunts are legendary. But, this is the only directing credit I've ever seen, not that it is the only one, just that I've never known before that he directed. A real cowboy and quite an accomplished horseman, he trained the horses to chariots and oversaw production of the race in Ben Hur. And speaking of doubling for Clark Gable, if not mistaken, he was doubling for Gable in the burning of Atlanta scenes in Gone With the Wind. No doubt Canutt and Van Sickel were good friends as well as co-workers in the Hollywood stunt profession. That Canutt trusted him with the very difficult stunts in this movie is high praise, indeed. Enjoyed very much. Thanks for sharing, Nevada Jane.

Yakima Canutt played in almost all of John Wayne's early westerns. He was the Indian who fell between the horses & stagecoach in the '39 STAGECOACH. The most dangerous stunt ever done for a long time. Him & John Wayne were good friends. Part native American from the state of Washington.

I love this movie Rocky Lane probably is a was a better cowboy in the movies and John Wayne and several others that everybody said for wonderful he just was a little ahead of his time if you'd have been just a little bit later you would outshine them all he had all the add-ons attitude and the charisma of a great actor and a wonderful horse

I love this episode! Got more chuckles than from a straight-up comedy! @8:53, Rocky is using the 'hollywood-two-fisted-rein-grip' that most "cowboy actors" were taught. I've ridden horses since I was 20 (74 now) and pushed cattle down in S.Texas, rode on 150 mile trail rides, and I've never seen any horseman do that. Few used both hands on the reins, and even they didn't hold their hands up by the sternum.

What Yak was known for was his long career as top Hollywood Stunt man and inventor of many of the stunts done safely, in particular the ones used in John Wayne movies early on. His two boys followed him and all did the Chariot Race with Charlton Heston in THE TEN COMMANDMENTS. They taught Heston to drive the Chariot.
@booklover67532 жыл бұрын
That chariot race was in Ben Hur. Yak was the stunt coordinator for that film.

How would a person who has never been here before know where Willow Creek Bridge is? Spaghetti western. I was born in '41, I remember Tom Mix, Hopalong Cassidy, The Cisco Kid, Roy Rogers, sissy Gene Autry, Johnny Mack Brown, Gabby Hayes, Cisco Kid and even Al Jolson (who a black-face jazz singer not a cowboy) and others, but I never heard of Allen (Rocky) Lane.

@jasoncollins17024 жыл бұрын
They did have color back then, beginning from the early-mid 30s, and even earlier for the more basic processes. Black and white was really the only choice for modest budget films like this one. Also, color wouldn't have improved it one bit: it's not that kind of movie. This is all about the action; and there're different kinds of spectacles.
