A newbie here, but a veteran Fort Wilderness camper (since 1972). The title with Fort Wilderness is what caught my eye! I could see your concerns getting around in your big rig, but actually the Premium sites (just reconstructed a few years ago) are the only ones that usually are recommended. To be fair to Disney, this campground was built when campers were mostly in tents or small trailers. We started out in a VW camper and have owned nearly every type of trailer/RV in the last 50+ years. We are now in a 34' RV. We have intentionally not gone for a longer RV so we can fit in most National Parks and private campgrounds. Anyhoo, enjoyed your video and seeing our favorite campground. Expensive, yes, but considering all we enjoy there it is worth it to us every 1-2 years. Safe travels!

First visit to your youtube channel! For years, we would come down to Ft. Wilderness with our 2 kids around Christmas time. We have done it in a 45' fifth wheel, 30' motorhome, 45' Prevost CC, and a 45' Prevost Featherlite. We now have a home 10 mins away! Between the site posts, narrow roads and encroaching bushes it is always a challenge. Even more so when the neighbor parks their vehicle partly into the road. Regardless, it feels like home to us when we come for a visit - definately a special place. Do you remember when you could swim in the lake? Remember the open trams (no bus) - we like that so much better! Great video! You guys nailed it!

We did exactly what yall did on our first time at FortWilderness. We tried 2 standard sites and with the sharp turns, trash cans and trees… it was the hardest rv park we have ever had to maneuver in. Since it was built in the 70’s the rv’s were not as big as ours today. Next time grab the premium meadows sites… less stressful! Hope you have an amazing trip at Disney World! 🎉

We tent camp at least once or twice a year at the Fort. We hope to eventually RV camp but for now we enjoy tent camping. This past July we camped in the loop that we prefer to camp in and had the whole back section as well as the bathroom to ourselves. The price tag can be high and has definitely like all things Disney become higher over the years. To off set the cost, we usually camp with another family to split the cost of the site. You can get two 6 person tents comfortably on one site. Some things to make your trip more enjoyable is to bring your bikes even if you rent a golf cart (which I highly recommend). It's fun to decorate your carts no matter what time of year it is when you're there camping. It's also fun to go catch a movie (free) and make s'more's with Chip and Dale or go do some of the crafts that they offer. There is also archery, canoeing, and visiting the horse barn where small children can ride the ponies just to name a few things the Fort offers. You have to pay extra for many of these activities but they’re fun to do if you budget them into your stay. There are two swimming pools on the property. One that is family friendly with a kids pool area and the other is quieter for older kids and adults to enjoy. There are several basketball courts on the grounds, a volleyball court area, lots of kids playground areas as well as a dog park. You can only bring your dog to the Fort if you are camping in an RV so that your pets have A/C and can be properly contained when you leave your campsite for long periods of time to go to the parks, etc. If you go on FB you'll find several groups that you can join for tips and tricks to camping at the Fort and the Original Fort Wilderness Scavenger Hunts group is so much fun for all ages.

We picked a 30 ft class C after looking in space at most camp grounds. Most state parks don’t have room for 40 ft rigs and a lot of big rv parks , the space for 40 footers were more like parking lots. No trees. And the tree areas were for 30 ft and less rigs. Plus my husband doesn’t want to drive a class A 😊

State parks can be tight for sure. We have only stayed in a handful of them but I am very careful about booking them.

@stevenalves4795 күн бұрын
@@TheShinpaughs The stacker gets left up front in the overflow parking. I unload the golf cart and it is driven back to the spot. If you look at the overflow parking it is quite common to see large stackers parked there. It takes a big RV to pull one of those stackers.

Yep. Fort Wilderness Campsites can make for difficult backing. As pointed out here, it really depends on one's rig length, the angle of the site, (especially if it's on the inside of a curve) & the obstacles like the cable boxes, which I seem to find as the front of my long bed truck swings out. The older "Prefered" sites can be especially challenging.

Back in the 70's they didn't have safety ropes up on the walkways. My husband and a long line of kids were lined up waiting to get on the rope swing around the lake. Kids in the back of the line started to push the line forward so it would move and my husband was pushed off the dock head first into the water which was only a ft deep. He broke his neck that day. He actually had to walk around ft wilderness holding his head up with his hands. He actually had to find the nurses station because back then they didn't have real life guards, just people who walked around. He was in traction and the second person in the state of FL to get a halo brace for almost a year. He's never been back and won't. He learned a long time ago Disney doesn't care about the guests only their bottom dollar.

Great video, we showed up the week before Halloween for our first time staying there and in our 45' Allegro Bus. Yes it was tight. Our trip was to take the kids to Disney and didn't think about the campground much so didn't rent a cart nor did anyone make a suggestion to rent a cart to make better use of the campground. I made the assumption that our Jeep (TOAD) would be sufficient to get us around but it wasn't. They kind of make the campground by design so that you really need that cart. What kind of grill was that you used to cook those wings?

Agreed, you can do it without a cart but so much easier with one. It is a Keveri grill. Best cooking gadget we have had:)

We stayed at Halloween back in 2009 or 2010….. What a great trip! Continue to try to book 2025 with no success. We stayed 4 nights over Thanksgiving….. averaged $243/night have Friday thru Mon before Christmas booked for $333/night. We do it for the Grandkids (and the kids to be honest) and enjoy our time there. Some of our children’s best memories. Yes, it’s expensive….. But it’s a choice that we are able to make. Great video!

Thank you! We got our reservation last minute. You have to be on the website a bunch the couple weeks leading up to the event. But lots cancel their reservations because they make them so far in advance.

I love Disney, we've stayed in six different resorts, loved them all except Fort Wilderness. I could see you all were responsible golf cart users. That was not our experience. We took our bicycles and both while walking and while riding our bikes we were nearly run over by idiot golf cart drivers. I am very allergic to poison ivy and have become very adept at recognizing it. I don't know how I managed it, but I contracted one of the worst cases of poison ivy I've ever had, while camping at Fort Wilderness. Once and done for us. I am very much enjoying your videos though!

I think if they included the golf cart in the fee, it would worth it a bit more. Why don't they allow the electric motors? Is it because they don't want the extra pull on power for charging them?
@TheShinpaughs13 күн бұрын
The gold carts are a big money makes for them. They do not really care about electric best I can tell.

Great video, thanks for sharing. We have stayed at Fort Wilderness several times and think its a great place to stay to do Disney however not worth the money just to camp. There are many cheaper alternatives for that. As far as the rules on E-Bikes, scooters, etc... We've bent or broken those rules as have many others and never had an issue. My personal opinion is those rules are there to persuade people to pay the overpriced golf cart rental fees.

@TheShinpaughs one cord coming from the stump, then lots of spliters or Christmas decoration powerstakes. It takes me about a whole day to set everything up for Halloween. Someone else asked me how I brought them all in my little camper and suv. Most of them were in the storage box on top of my vehicle.

How do your children learn? And missing school experiences, just sad😢 they will not know what to do if they get to college 😮the world will hit them hard😢😢
@TheShinpaughsАй бұрын
What experiences do you think they are missing? Reading a book about the Oregon Trail or going on a horse back ride on the actual Oregon Trail. Or looking at pictures of the Rocky Mountains or hiking in them and learning how they were created? They are not going to college because they have already started thier own businesses. But I guess they should not do that at 15 & 17🤷♂️

This is my first time watching your video. Great job! As far as Fort "Wilderness", once is enough for campers, but still a must see. I spent 3 nights with the amateur glampers to know not to do that again. You know the amateurs by the string of lights on all night robbing any chance of seeing stars and tent campers thinking it's light outside, the sun is up but it's 3am. I'm gay but that place is way to gay for me 😮.

Great park job. I probably would not spend that amount for a 3 day trip unless it was tradition. It looked super nice but there's a lot people jammed in that campground. Not sure it would be relaxing. Was it loud for you guys?

It was not our typical camping experience, but I am glad we did it. We had a fun time and no it was no to loud once everyone settled down at the end of the evening!

Hey, Disney world is not 35ft or bigger rig's . They need to remove some trees and widen some roads. DW is way too expensive foods are right its like the keys too crowded for me. I found other places to go then Fl. Cats can walk on the beach and chase and attack crabs and seagulls no one around.
