I own a MacBook Pro 16 (2023). And this is a problem for me, because I work on a MacBook, without using an external keyboard. And constantly after a week of using the laptop, traces of the keyboard begin to remain on the screen. I am very afraid of damaging the screen with constant wiping every week. I am also afraid that there will be such a problem as on the old MacBooks, when the screen coating was damaged due to this. Now I decided to use the sheet of paper that was placed between the keyboard and the screen at the factory. It will be interesting to see how this affects the cleanliness of the screen.

@@sidx4446 No I am not using a screen protector. As an update: the new screen they put on my mac does not have as much of a problem as the previous one did with keyboard imprints, however it still is getting an imprint from the strip of metal between the touch pad and the keyboard. On my mac, it seems as though this part is the part that extends higher than everything else. Overall - this one is much better. There must be slight variations in the keyboards, mac bodies, and screens which can cause this issue, given how tightly designed it is.

The thin paper like thing that you get while unboxing MacBook, never throw it away :P. That's the secret :v. Guess what, my display is just as much clean as the day 1.
@shoumikislam92422 жыл бұрын
@John Edzel Espino Yes that’s right. The paper like thing that is shipped in between display and keyboard of a laptop while it’s brand new. Most of us just throw it away. I decided to keep it. By doing this I have managed to keep dirts away from screen and do not touch display or keyboard while hands are dirty with debris and food remaining. And to clean display if it is required, I just take a microfiber cloth and spray small amount of water on the cloth, then just let it soak, with that clean the display. I'm on MacBook #6 now. Every single one has gotten some keyboard screen damage at some point because, as you said, pressure isn't divided evenly and when you're on the move, there will be situations where the screen will be pressed into the keyboard. On the other hand, in daily circumstances this is hardly ever a problem; once the LCD is on, you don't see any of it except in certain sunshine conditions. So "destroy" is a bit too strong I think. The problem with putting anything between the keyboard and screen is that you make pressure on the screen and on the hinge permanent. As you said there's hardly any space there to begin with, and this doesn't improve matters. So I just accept things for what they are, as I typically spend 3-4 years with a MacBook before replacing it and it will last the course.

For the lid I searched again in the household section and found a microfiber glass cloth that’s very slim. I had to cut the edges since it was larger than the keyboard and touchpad area, but now I have two pieces. I tried it, and it seems to work great. I've ordered this product but in the 13"to 14" size since mine is the 13.3" size. I have one of those silicone covers for the keyboard but I thought I heard that the MacBook can't cool off properly while using the silicone keyboard cover. Is this true about the silicone keyboard cover?
@Nana.commmm Жыл бұрын
i heard that using a silicon cover can actually break your screen as it is very thick

I ordered this Apple laptop online about a week ago and received it in the mail yesterday. I wish I'd knew this before I bought it. I realized how quickly and easily the screen and the surface by the mouse and keyboard become filthy and covered with oil, smudges, streaks, and so on. If I'd known how easily this was going to get smudged and how much money I'd be spending on unnecessary shit like microfiber cloths and cleaning sprays and keyboard covers and shit, I would've stuck with the old devices I'm already familiar with because This cost me $2,000, and now I have to pay $200 for Apple Care and another $200 for accessories. I've never had to do anything like that before. Thank you for the bag advise, by the way. I visit my grandparents once a month for a few weeks, and I always pack a lot of stuff for the road trip. I used to take my laptop in my suitcase with my shoes, clothes, lotions, sprays, and extension cords, but now I have to carry this in hand in a separate bag with a case. If I had known I had to spend money on nonsense like a protected glass plastic screen cover, a keyboard cover, a mouse cover, and other nonsense, I would have saved my money.

I see white dots on my MacBook next to trackpad! I have no idea what is that! Don’t know how to clean that! Don’t wipe at all ! Assuming once some drops of lemon juice spread over that but that could be this much sensitive to lose the colour because of lemon?
@ViorelIanasi Жыл бұрын
Look at it closely. I had that too. It was a dent/hole on the display caused by some dirt. Yes, the area between trackpad and spacebar. Fortunately I was on warranty and they replaced the display ensemble.

What about using a keyboard cover and then microfiber cloth on top?
@foXnoMad Жыл бұрын
Not sure it adds any additional screen protection but if the lid still closes properly, can't hurt I suppose.

Two layers? Probably not.

@@foXnoMad What evidence do you have that what you propose is valid?
@foXnoMad9 ай бұрын
The point is to prevent skin grease from the keyboard getting on the screen. Not sure how two layers would accomplish that any better. Plus the space between the keyboard and screen is very small so the thinner the protection, the better.

can it break the screen or mess up h-the hinge just like camera covers and screen protectors do?
@ahuynn5 ай бұрын
That's what I'm afraid too. I'm currently putting nothing in between the keyboard and the screen. However, I maintain the habit to wipe the keyboard every time after using it. I have a 10-year-old Macbook Pro and there is no imprint or whatsoever on the Retina screen, just by keeping this habit. I also don't stuff anything heavy in my backpack that could put pressure on it. Also, if you still keep the thin paper sheet that was originally came with the device when you unboxed it, then it's a solid chance to protect the screen by keep using it when you close the lid.
@TranceCore33 ай бұрын
As long as the cloth is thin enough, but that point it might actually be useless as a cloth.
@vand3rlinden9 ай бұрын
Apple said “If you use a camera cover, palm rest cover, or keyboard cover with your Mac notebook, remove the cover before closing your display to prevent damage to your display. Leaving any material on your display, keyboard, or palm rest might interfere with the display when it's closed and cause damage to your display”. It will probably do more harm than good.
@idahadi Жыл бұрын
I use good quality screen protector last time and also keyboard cover. I can really see the imprinting on that protector. Last year i already remove the screen protector now i have to be careful. Been using that macbook for more than 4 years. Do you think screen protector is good?
@foXnoMad Жыл бұрын
Two things I don't like about the screen protector is that if it's too thick, they put pressure on the keyboard but also, there's just one more layer between you and the screen. In either case it comes down to preference (and patience, getting those screen protectors on without dust or bubbles isn't easy)!

Just got my MacBook Pro 14" today, and I definitely know what we are talking about here. My previous laptop, a Lenovo flex5 is 4 years now with 3 years of use, has a totally f'd up screen because of all the marks from the keys. Ordered the best microfibercloth I could use for this use; a 30cm x 40cm zeiss cloth. There aren't any cloths available here that would be the right size but Imma just try to cut it to the right size and hope it doesnt dismantle all over the place lol. If that doesn't work, Imma just give up and pay the premium for a cloth marketed for a 14" laptop screen 🤣

I've not tried it on the M2 MBA but didn't have issues on the MBAs prior versions. In this case even the thin paper (the kind that the new Airs ship with) may be a decent alternative.

For the exterior? I use a soft case when I pack my Macbooks but find the hard cases for most people unnecessary.

i have a better alternative, buy a thin transparent plastic keyboard protector, add a small retangular sticker to the protector so it becomes easy to remove it, use the protector while using the macbook, when not just remove it and close the lid normally, carry you macbook inside a hardshell sleeve all the time, thats it
