that's why i don't come home first... i do a full day's labor on mostly an empty stomach (like a glass of protein in the morning and some coffee) and then head straight to the gym on the way home and after work and lifting i go home and eat my first meal

More and more unsavory people at the gym these days anyway. I do it at home now and it saves the hassle of packing a gym bag, finding parking, and waiting on equipment. Also saves money.

I stopped doing flat chest presses and only doing incline smith machine and cable flies and have seen much better improvement in my overall chest size that I wasn’t getting before

I've been doing most of my push and pull on cable at low medium and high positions all thanks to Mr Shreve. I really feel these exercise targeting these areas a lot more effectively. I stopped doing the closed hand dumbbell at the bench.

I totally agree with the 15 and 30 deg bench and the cable flyes. Other exercises work but these are the most effective 👍🏾

lengthened partials dumbbell flies is one of the best chest exercises you can do. Dr. Milo Wolf and Dr. Mike Israetel ranked it the second best chest exercise after cambered bar bench press.

I don't need more upper chest, I need more lower. Dips, flat bench press and dumbell pullovers are key for lower mass in the chest

Been doing the chest fly tri-exercise for some time, lost the moobs, but can't quite get the middle section yet so I'll try the Smith machines too. Anythings worth a go. Great tips and loving the "here's why", so many videos lack that.

Due to a shoulder problem I can't bench for a while now but do cable fly's instead, low, mid, high and seem to have better chest activation and pump with it. Definately keep doing them!!

Just found this guy. Physiologically accurate!!! I’ll be watching more. As I get older I notice some parts tend to get sore that shouldn’t, so I adjust my training. What I end up with is doing everything this guy says. Build muscle, save your joints.

I’ve really seen improvement in my chest by hitting incline 1st. It’s the same thing as hitting leg press before squats.

I agree 100% and gonna add the 15 degree chest press tomorrow. It amazing How dumbbells and the flat benches are kinda overrated, especially with how the newer machines are being made to emphasize the importance of time under tension. But the dumbbell/bench press area is always more crowded than the machines section lol

Its because having a strength foundation in pressing exercises is helpful for translating over to machines or other hypertrophy movements. Same reason youd do dips or pullups, functional strength. Yeah you wont build a back wide as a barn doing only pullups, but theres something to be said for having raw power and strength vs just muscle mass

The internet has so much mixed information, for example another trainer on KZbin says flies on the bench are one of the best 😂 I’d recommend anyone getting into working out to stay off the internet and get an old school workout poster and stick it on your wall. Try all exercises until you hit what works FOR YOU It’ll take time and experimenting, but that’s what it’s all about.

Exactly. People respond differently to exercises. Some have issues with dumbbell flyes, others only had their chest growing when doing the dumbbell flyes. and so on. People have to find out what suits them best.

Brother, I gotta say this is in my opinion no good recommendations. Flat bench bench press should be the start of your chest days, when you do your first rep of each set when you have the bar on your chest pinch your shoulder blades together and hold them there for the rest of the set. And for upper chest you wanna use dumbbells so you get more stretch in your chest, let you shoulders down and again pinch your shoulder blades together, bench should be at a 45 degree angle. For cable flies always use a bench to prevent swinging your body back and forth to really isolate your chest, and same here try pinching your shoulder blades together. And for anyone mixing in decline bench don’t shrug your shoulders/traps, try activating your lats to keep your elbows at 45 degree angle from you body and try keep those shoulder blades together! Overall I really like your videos, good tips and tricks, with talks about serious issues, and the importance of good nutrition! Keep up the good work, cheers from Sweden!

Slightly declined bench and Incline bench ftw. Dumbbell flies are how I got the most chest development out of all chest exercises I think it depends on how you do them.

I would have never noticed that Bobby Orr pic if I hadn't read your post. Right between Glenn "Mr. Goalie" Hall's wickets. I was also a goaltender. In 1970 I went to the "Orr -Walton" Sports Camp in Orillia Canada. Orr took shots on me, spoke to me briefly, and 2 years later, at a jam-packed department store stick signing, he almost immediately recognized me. I have an autographed pic of myself, Orr, and Mike Walton from 1970 taken at his sports camp. 👍🏽😃 Let's hope that the Bruins do better this year in the post season. Now, blast those pecs!😂

People need to understand the difference between training for strength and training for size. Obviously there is some carry over, but bench is great for strength not as much for size. Vice versa a cable fly is great for size, but not for optimizing power. In my opinion the biggest problem for the average person is they have no goals so they are all over the place trying to get size,definition, and strength all at once. Someone training for a power lifting meet has much different best lifts and workload versus the guy trying to get shredded for the beach. Set a goal and train accordingly. Great video 👍

You can listen to 20 experts and each one of them might have a different opinion. The bottom line is that you do what works for you. It comes by trial and error. Alot of people swear by the flat bench press. I do the flat dumbbell press and the incline press. It works for me.

New subscriber here, so glad I found your channel on coincidence. I learned so much in this video! I am guilty of using seated barbell press, I start the press with my palms parallel to my body, then press over my chest with my grip turned horizontal as they meet at the top. But you're right, I suppose it does put a lot of pressure on my shoulders too. I never really considered incline. Will try incline out more with the machine.

I have Cervical Spinal Stenosis and when it acts up I lose 80% of my power in my left side. I can't push anything heavy. First time it happened to me I had to change my chest workout drastically. I stopped doing bench press and lifting heavy and my chest really got developed by accident. Jonni is 100% bang on. I learned out of necessity. LoL. Go small, light, and hit it from different angles.

This is great but maybe we are valuing tension in the lengthened postion above load overall?? You can only load cable flyes for so much before your entire body is helping with the exercise where as a incline dumbell press can be loaded FAR greater but also to where you still receive a huge degree of tension in the lengthened postion if put through a full ROM.
