Great video! I taught my new wife to dive while I was doing a divemaster course in the Philippines. We had an awesome 25+ years together, and I believe the diving made it even better. Relying on each other, and experiencing so much together, really cements the soul mate thing. I wish it on everyone!

My beautiful wife has arthritis and a latex allergy so SCUBA diving has been largely off-limits to her. But I've taught her to snorkel and she has supported me in my love of diving, including the moment on our Jamaica trip two years ago when I finally got my PADI certification. Divers are a special breed but those that love them are even MORE special!
@bfbaril6 жыл бұрын
Out of curiosity, why do arthritis and latex allergies render scuba off-limits? I assumed buoyancy would reduce the pain from arthritis, and latex is fairly rare; modern wetsuits are usually neoprene, dry suit seals are usually neoprene or silicone, and most good masks, mouthpieces, and necklaces are silicone. Did I miss an important piece of gear that's usually latex?
@subparracer5 жыл бұрын
@@bfbaril unsure about arthritis but I'm pretty sure the latex is because Scuba suits are made from bits of latex? 😅 buuut I honestly don't have a clue just assumptions. Would really like to find out both reasons as well. I'd hate to get arthritis and not he able to dive. I work labor and pretty sure that's gonna be in my future... super depressing. I'm 22 and already have problems fishing because my hands ache from broken bones that were not healed correctly 😔 but I hate seeing comments from months ago and not a single reply so I fixed that for ya... sorry not good info tho. Hopefully someone will post about it that knows more.
@bfbaril5 жыл бұрын
@@subparracer Nah, wetsuites are neoprene, drysuits have fabric insulated inner layers and neoprene, silicone, or latex seals. Modern masks are usually silicone. Latex is very easy to avoid nowadays since it's a relatively common allergy. As for arthritis, from what I can find, individuals should get cleared by a physician, since they may be at higher risk of DCI. Individuals with pulmonary complications of rheumatoid arthritis are at risk of arterial gas embolism at any depth diving. On the other hand, many people report that osteoarthritis symptoms are less noticeable when diving, but that those same symptoms may mask those of DCI. Moral of the story: check with your physician.
@charlesg79262 жыл бұрын
The fins are rubber/plastic, the mask is silicone and plastic, wetsuits are neoprene and fabric, BCD is fabric, metal and plastic… haha nothing is latex bro, except sometimes a dry suit’s seals (but noobs don’t use drysuits anyway)

Hey I disagree with the divers dislike of fancy dinners. If you dive all day you work up an appetite. Don't expect a diver to dress up after a dive to go to a fancy dinner
@AlonyaJ Жыл бұрын
I'm a scuba diver (Instructor) and my hubby failed the medical due to lung damage caused by childhood asthma. So I taught him to snorkel and paid for us to certify as Free Divers. I did it to keep him company. So, I dive and sometimes he free-dives down to me. I love that he can share my other world, even if it is for slightly shorter times. Plus, I do snorkel out with him sometimes too, to keep him company as it often gets lonely on the surface.

Next time come visit to Finland. :) Cold Waters and bad visiblity on summer, but on winter under the ice you see well, and you can enjoy even colder water. Also Norwegian caves have excelent visiblity and water is arround 4-5. Cold Waters are not bad, some divers just like to dive in colder Waters for wrecks and caves ;) Warm Waters have their own things.

Ooops. .Literally growing up in a dive shop was neat though. Don't let your kids run around willy nilly with spear guns, folks.

Well, I just finished the PADI eLearning course today, and I hope to do the in-water training next month. I'm now 60. great vid mostly correct! though some divers aren't sure about sharks like me. I know the statistics but still its like Caribbean people are afraid of barracuda in the med were not. I think its knowing something is a better predator than you like moray eels. diving near them seems to be okay but ive been attacked while snorkeling near them out of the blue and I know people who have been bitten.
