Would you consider partnering with me through Patreon to make some dreams happen? Let's give this world something to smile about and fight for JOY! I have been building guitars for 12 years. Some of my guitars are played by professional musicians, including musicians who played with our Minnesota's Own Prince.
For this to work, I will need patron support through Patreon. The more support, the more guitars to give away and I will film it for your pleasure! I've gotta pay for parts somehow :) The first guitar featured was in process prior to developing the idea and already has a destination, however my hope is to continue building guitars and giving them away to individuals who need a boost in life. This might not be the criteria for every guitar given away, but it will be for the majority. _____________________________________________________________________

I love that Schaller bridge. I used one on the only guitar that I've ever built back in '83 or so. They work very well, and are a higher quality bridge than a "Bad Ass" bridge, IMO.

See these kind of videos is why I use KZbin more than anything besides google. It’s also how you get my follow every time I watch one. You didn’t talk about nonsense, you gave extensive information, examples, and recommended the best way/tools to use. These are all factors that contribute in your success or failure in your project. But the thing I really love most is how you told us about your failures and what you did wrong and how to make sure it doesn’t happen again. It shows even the most experienced, professional, people are not always right or how easy it is for them to make mistakes if they’re not careful. And since I am just starting to learn how to setup and modify my own guitar, I’ve been making more mistakes than I’d ever thought possible and I’m not done yet im sure but I am learning to KZbin everything first, GET THE CORRECT TOOLS, and measure twice cut once. This video will definitely save me some guitar trouble n

Some of the anchors available have got oversize slots and use adjusting screws to get the anchor in just the right place. Also important to get the distance from the nut correct, else you will experience intonation problems. I ran into this problem with a very good top of the line Squire, perfect in every detail, except that the bridge was set too far from the nut and two of the individual bridge pieces were contacting the hold down screws. The complete bridge and tremolo had to be moved forward by about 2.5mm in order to correctly intonate the guitar.

It’s easy to pull those post inserts from the top, protect the body with a towel, use a small scrap piece of wood as a riser, and use a claw hammer to pull them out like a nail., you can unthread the post a bit to make less of an angle as you start, thread it in more if needed as it’s coming out ., use blue painters tape on the surfaces of the claw hammer to protect the plating, great channel, subbed!

Great idea, I just drilled my posts for a Graph Tech piezo wrap around bridge and of course I was off about 3/4 of a millimeter, had to start over and to make matters worse I had recessed them to be flush with the top. It was a huge headache to fix. Going to order one of those jigs. Thanks a bunch for solving this issue.

Make a jig out of old pine and line up the holes using the bridge as before and drill the pilot holes and save yourself $27 ? Put the jig on your guitar and begin the pilot holes and remove the jig to finish to the correct depth !
@letsbuildaguitar9230
@letsbuildaguitar9230 10 ай бұрын
I hear what you’re saying, but the problem with using wood as a bit jig is that the bit quickly cuts away at the jig and then you have play/movement….metal can do the same but it lasts much longer….well worth 27dollars when your working on a guitar body that you have a lot of money and time invested….not worth skimping on!
@lesblack413
@lesblack413 2 ай бұрын
I agree, but would make the holes in the jig over size and either use a screw in metal bush or a straight metal bush. Either would stand up to continuous drilling, and can be replaced, if or as is necessary.

I searched for a tutorial on how to drill holes for a new bridge and this was prefect! With that being said, I only have a regular drill but I guess I can still try while using a blank test piece first. I would think this also works for drilling new holes into a headstock?
@letsbuildaguitar9230

Yeah! You’re going to want to keep that drill as perpendicular as possible….or see if there’s anyone you know who might have one you could borrow for a few minutes.

I have a question, if I wanted to paint some details(white) on a guitar body(lets say its black) with a paint brush would I need special paint and polyurethane for protection?
@letsbuildaguitar9230
@letsbuildaguitar9230 2 жыл бұрын
Yes….you would need to lightly sand the body first with around a 600 grit sand paper so that your paint will stick….use an enamel paint and then polyurethane !

Yeah that's a pain in the butt when you get your parts and the old posts are set into the body of the guitar. You either have to bore the old ones out and risk making the holes too big or use the old posts with the new bridge , if you're lucky enough that they match up. They didn't for me. I drilled the holes great at first , I thought but , when I went to string the guitar I was an eighth of an inch too wide and I'm still trying to remedy the situation.🤔It's kinda interesting that I thought of nearly the same solution as you except mine consists only of a framing square , so far.😊

They are almost impossible to find…when you can find them they are quite expensive. Nice ones run 300 plus. I keep my eyes open for them….buy used and have them replated at advanced plating in Tennessee…which adds another 100 to the bill.

@@letsbuildaguitar9230 I have one left, with the fine tuners. It was gold but that was long ago. I stripped it and I'll polish and plate it eventually. I know it's hard to plate pot metals with a zinc content but I think I now have the correct chemistry to copper plate it, after that I'll do nickel. It was a good unit, I used it on many builds back in the day, shame it was discontinued.
