@@nickvroman6325 the influence of old Norse upon English, while certainly present, pales in comparison to the influence of French and Latin, and the grammar and core vocabulary of English remains almost entirely West Germanic (one major exception of course being the pronoun "they")

@@nickvroman6325 It depends on what time period you're talking about. Old English is obviously more closely related to German, however the same cannot be said for middle english. By the way old Norse and old English are sister languages, meaning that they already had a lot in common even without influencing each other.

ngl I always found the whole "you wouldn't get this from any other guy" line kind of manipulative, abusive even. Imagine going "you should get with me because I am the only man in the world who would ever commit to being with you."

This made me think, and really huge parts of the text are pretty manipulative. His argument for himself is that he will never stop chasing her? That he will never leave? That he will never say goodbye?

@@Seetor The Norman conquest didn't change things overnight. There may have been dialectal forms of English by that time that would have been appropriately described as transition English (that is, well on the way to becoming grammatically Middle English), but that would be due to natural linguistic change combined with Vikings, not the Normans; the earliest comfortably Middle English surviving texts date to the mid-1100s.

It's from the Firefox browser extension "Enhancer for KZbin", which has a bunch of other useful features like custom playback speeds, a skip ad button (basically a single-use ad block that lets you skip an ad before the 5s are up, and let's you decide whether you want to support a creator by viewing the ad on a case-by-case basis), the option to fuck with the contrast and brightness of a video and too many more for me to list now. It's super useful, basically.
